The Pakistan Experience

The Pakistan Experience

Күн бұрын

Uzair Younis, a policy analyst from DC, comes on The Pakistan Experience to discuss the economy, the government and the policies of the country.
Is the economy failing under PTI? What can be done to remedy it? What do the future prospects look like for the country and the economy?
The Pakistan Experience is a podcast looking to tell stories about Pakistan, and Pakistanis, through the lost art of conversation.

Hi. Loved the podcast as usual. Just an advice, you should edit small clips from the podcasts which are important such as 'why CPEC is bad' from this one or 'where did $190 million go which UK govt gave us back' from the previous one with the guests credentials in the description and post them on Facebook and Twitter.

Pakistan's obsession with India has clouded its judgement. Your enemy's enemy is not always your friend. Just because someone is India's rival, they aren't necessarily your best friends. China can smell Pakistan's desperation and will continue to take advantage of it. At the end of the day, China and India might even make peace and move on to the global stage, while Pakistan will be left holding the debt, resentment and conspiracy theories.
@razamirza8675

Pakistan isn't obsessed with India, that's actually the opposite, we rarely see any news about India but Indian news almost never forgets to report about Pakistan. China's OBOR is a must for China and they know that it will eventually transform their economy in a great way, also it needs an alternative route other than South China Sea which in this case is the CPEC. China knows, if CPEC fails, OBOR will fail too as it won't be left with any other alternative route for its exports.

@@razamirza8675 CPEC won't fail but but seeing China's track record in Xinjiang or in Tibet, it is difficult to imagine that 30 years from now when Pakistan is too dependent on china it is very possible that it will start claiming more of Pakistan. Pakistan's biggest problem is that it doesn't take its sovereignty seriously. It always wants to become a the tool of a bigger power in their larger narrative. It doesn't even pretend to try an forge an independent path for itself.

53:20 india was a closed economy till 1990 not just auto sector. so maruti was a joint venture with suzuki . no foreign company was allowed to have more than 49 percent share . and india built their own companies by sharing technology with foreign players . and developed maruti mahindra and tata in 4 wheelers , and bajaj tvs in two wheelers. so even with competition everyone grew. main point is starting from humiliation and starting from that like japan after ww 2 . read about japan story . and i agree nawaz gov is the only hope for pakistan. but some pakistanis get into modi support nawaz conspiracy. i mean two nuclear power countries dont fight. evey single person even if they dont say it know the solution to kashmir. but guess who was the biggest power looser in the power and prospective game .

Appreciate you guys putting out a knowledgeable discussion on Pakistan's economy. Can you dedicate a similar kind of program and talk about 'Pakistani Establishment' and their role throughout our history . Big networks can't do it for obvious reasons. May be the likes of you can. Your footprint is smaller and you can fly under the radar. Its vital because someone needs to talk about it and put the message out there. Cheers.

Respectfully disagree with comparison of Pakistan and India (1:20:00). Please remember India is not a monolithic country. All of their progress is mostly dependent on few states in the south. Pakistan is more close to India’s Northern states like UP and Bihar. Just keep in mind that UP and Bihar are BIMARU states even after 72 years of independence. 😀😀

What about Delhi , Punjab , haryana etc? See the amount of taxes we delhite pay . If I remember correctly only the state of Maharashtra ( because of Mumbai ) pays more taxes than us . And that too because many companies have registered their offices in Mumbai. We are also north indians . Don't know why southern indians have a sense of superiority? Up had never been a stable region , just check the history of it's government.

I beg to differ with you fellow Indian. Southern states have better social indicators, but economy wise northern states like UP, Gujarat, Punjab, NCT of Delhi are better. Maharashtra is the largest. From south only Tamil Nadu is at par. Kerala's economy is peanuts compared to many northern states. Also the word BIMARU is shed. Please update your vocabulary. Please refer to socially poor indicator states as EAGS. And I am not a North Indian so don't think I am defending North India out of emotion. I am from Northeast but I am well read and updated about India.

Around 1:18 host is saying "Pakistanis have better English accent than indians." Ohh c'mon.. there's no such thing as "better" accent. Each place has their own mixture of accent like russian or French or British. Rather than epitomizing one accent, focus on content of what's being said. Rather than how's it said. And as an indian, I think indians have much higher proportion of English speaking people so more chances of stumbling upon amateur English speakers. You're trying good for your country bro.keep it up. bring in Junaid akram once.

Uzair is correct that the diaspora supported IK and PTI because he was an alternate to an elite viewed as corrupt. Also most Pakistanis in the US didn't arrive illegally but actually via legitimate visas either through a lottery or family sponsorships. Pakistan needs to settle its regional political issue with India, Bangladesh and Afganistan. Regional Political settlement and internal democratic institution building up, will bring stability in Pakistan. Then, trade with regional countries will save Pakistan economy. Bangladesh has love-hate mixed relationship with India, but Bangladesh has settled its Land Boundary and most of the other political issues with India in table dialogue, to ensure Peace in the ground. Now, Investment is coming to Bangladesh from Japan, China and Europe and Growth is boosting. My observation is, Pakistan needs Reform in many areas,,,, Political settlement with neighbours, limiting regional ambition, strengthening political institution by limiting interference of Rawalpindi. PM Sheikh Hasina of Bangladesh made many economic reform in last 12 years in office and the same is happening in India and Srilanka. Unfortunately, PM of Pakistan Imran Khan is hesitant to do economic reform. We hope that Pakistani ruling elite will understand the situation and will take courage in reform, which is politically costly and time consuming and often unpopular things.

I am surprised how good intellectual/logical discussion Pakistani do but when it comes to India/Modi, thier is no rational analysis simply hate. They can't point out what wrong Modi did for indian as a policy and why an otherwise intelligent people will support him. Remember Truth rises itself. Pakistani has to stop the unnecessary hate & fear towards india. Why army budget are so high. India never attacked anyone in whole history. They never expanded rather divided. Only one place for hindus in whole world. Indian has policies to not attack first so if Pakistani just stop terrorism & stop first attack, they are safe. Have guts to declare that & implement it and use the army budget on education & health. Pakistani knows all but breakthrough not happening because of hate & stuck in 1400 Islamic world .
