Tom your making great progress, if you what to expand your bead blasting you can use a refrigerator box . This way you can put bigger parts in it and you can reuse the media

Great tip! Sometimes I setup on a large tarp to collect some sand. Once the corners of the tarp are lifted all the sand goes back to the middle

Great video as usual. I did have a strange experience when the ad for the new movie "Father of the Bride" with Andy Garcia came up. What does it show him driving? A green 356! I thought for a split second your car was finished and "rented" out to the movies.

Hi Tom, do you have a video that shows the removal of the swing axle right from the beginning.

Hi Tom! You can put the gear box case with the races in hot water (near to boiling temperature )for a few minutes and then, the race will be loose enough for be taken out by hand. The same method to set the new races in place. I learn this method from the Peugeot 404 maintenance rear axle book, and use it for every aluminium cases, works great and don't have the risk of distorsions in the case. Regards from Argentina

Hi, does your gearbox have steel inserts for the bearing bores? Differential thermal expansion works best with Aluminum/Steel versus Steel/steel. Although the Porsche manual states to heat it during installation. This makes sense because one part is hot and one is cold. Glad it worked for you. I'm always curious as to the why!

@@GarageTimeAutoResto Hi, my gearbox havn't steel inserts. I miss that detail in yours 😂. I guess the water method didn't do anything in your situation. If any time you have to put or take out a bearing of an full alluminium case try with the hot water. It's just amaizing how much expands the alluminium with water under the boling point.

Thanks for clarifying! You must have a big soup pan to fit a transmission in it! The Porsche manual suggest to heat some parts in oil too. Heat is our friend. Thanks for sharing!
