What happens when a pandemic forces a father to find a better way to keep his teenage son occupied? Learn the origin story of how a father and son started hacking government APIs, what they’ve made (and how) … and hear about their ‘customer experience’ with government data.
Luke and Elias Fretwell will show how they used APIs, RSS or static data from federal agencies like National Archives, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Census Bureau, Food and Drug Administration, National Park Service and NASA.
They will also share ideas for building a better open data ecosystem and how everyone can use “civic hacking” as a way to inspire future generations to get excited about government and technology.
Technologists for the Public Good (TPG) Demo Days is a recurring series to highlight the work of our members and others in the civic tech community. This session contains fascinating insights and real-world advice for civic practitioners of all backgrounds and disciplines!
