Would you recommend everything in the video and/or modifications if the dog is having bilateral TPLO and/or a large dog? He is 80lbs and not overweight.
@caninewellnessonline4 ай бұрын
You might want to watch my newer videos that explains what to do each week. With bilateral the first 2 weeks are a little more challenging as they can’t rely on a good leg. So using the sling for exercises is safer.
@leighlawhon81604 ай бұрын
@@caninewellnessonline One of the reasons I am going with bilateral is because he's never been a player/jumper/excitable. He's a couch potato. But I will use your techniques for walking and massage and the sling. I really like the tickle/massage. Much better than bicycle. Thank you.

Thank you for the video- very helpful. Should we ice the knee after each short walk in the first week? And is the heat compress after the first 48 hours just once in the evening?
@caninewellnessonline4 ай бұрын
You only need to ice for the first 72 hours, but if you can feel heat around the joint (which you probably won't) you can use ice. You may want to watch my updated series which goes over week by week what to do...Having said that it won't cause any issues if you feel like you need to ice after the walks. the heat compress is just in the evenings to help with blood flow..
@pi4504 ай бұрын
Thanks so much for taking the time to reply. I will watch the updated series.
@brydie-leesheen907311 ай бұрын
I’m really concerned as I wasn’t told about icing or heat packs. Vet was vague about exercise. There was no mention of a sling. It’s been two weeks and my dog still won’t lower her leg. She’s a Labradoodle. Her right foot is turned inwards (is that normal)? Thank you for this video, very informative.

Hi i am happy to help. I am currently working on TPLO home guide course for owners like yourself. I have found the information for owners to be lacking. i You can always email me at appt@caninewellness.com and we can set up a consult on zoom. Typically by week two the leg should be on the ground..and the right leg is probably compensating for the leg that had the TPLO. Perhaps also contacting your vet to make sure there is not an underlying infection may be a good idea. cheers..tania

Question: our Golden might have to have Two Tplo surgeries and the surgeon wants to do them three weeks apart. What do you think? Can the second surgery wait a few months? Thank you for any thoughts.
@caninewellnessonlineАй бұрын
@@lauravandien2363 some surgeons do it at the same time others like 3 weeks. Personally many clients (not all) wait months for the second surgery as they find that with one leg repaired they rely on the “now good leg”and do ok for a while or sometimes long term.

@@caninewellnessonline Thank you for your response. After the first surgery in October, we leave for Florida, in December, for four months in our RV. The second surgery seemed like it wouldn’t have enough time to heal in order for him to deal with the steps in the RV. Thanks again-I will check out the suggested video.

@@lauravandien2363also it would be better that you have access to the surgeon if something isn’t right. I do have a tplo playlist that goes week by week. Also I do virtual rehab appts if you need extra help. Cheers tania

Think the stitch surgery has failed but is there a way to know without another x ray being done, my dog is done with being messed around with!
@caninewellnessonline3 ай бұрын
do you mean that the stitches have broken? or do you mean that the repair of the CCL has failed...stitches may not need surgery, but if there is an issue with the plate it may require a repair- keep me posted..🥰

Recovery seems impossible when you have a very lively Patterdale terrier that is a free-range farm dog he's hating this entrapment!

@caninewellnessonline3 ай бұрын
@@helengriffiths6348 oh that is what i was concerned about. Honestly, most likely it will be fine. between you and me, over time the area will develop scar tissue and probably stabilize the joint. Back when i first started rehab the extra capsular repair (which you are referring to) was the only surgery. In Canada now they don't use it but honestly it is the best surgery for dogs under 40lbs. keep me posted!

Do you have any tips for a tripod recovering from this surgery? My dog is missing her left rear leg.
@caninewellnessonline7 ай бұрын
I am assuming you have a rear harness to use ? (I have YT video how to make one). I would use the harness to do the exercises you will have the harness more on the side of the missing leg to add balance to help him. You can always email me at appt@caninewellness.com for a few tips.
