oh snap i was just thinking of adding a comment on your previous episode to also consider drilling a vertical to attach the new piece of aluminum to the case itself with a screw/bolt and not just rely on the epoxy... and then i saw this video sigh... we do learn more from mistakes alright... well im glued to your project anyway both progress and otherwise and also learn a lot. keep it going Brent

True. We do learn. I was positive from the beginning after I saw the alignment issue between aluminium block, black bracket and aluminium bracket . Tightening it just worsened the situation. Now the hunch part was involved in the 'thining of material compromising on strength' part'. That is where engineering software could help. Maybe a little modelling on Ansys. We diy guys usually go ur way and end up over engineering things but in cut-to-cut situation software is best solution. Provided we have all the parameters. This effort and solution arrived at proved useless. But an entertaining video. Still I would say the jb weld took a lot. I never knew a glue basically could hold so much metal together. Nice video

I think it wouldn't have snapped if I got the spacing just right. There's no reason that it should have much force on the epoxy from the tightening, aside from trying to deform due to gaps. If everything sat right up against the other components, it should really be reinforced rather than forced to yield when bolted together. On paper, it's super simple to use spacers. In reality, it's pretty easy to be a half mm or maybe mm off with spacing and then this happens. I watched Matt of The Workshop using SolidWorks IIRC recently and was impressed. I had no idea that those programs did virtual stress tests and so on. I've only gone as far as PaintShop and video editors. Never messed with any sort of CAD/modeling software because I thought they were mostly for people designing CNC or 3D printed things.

@@49ccscoot yeah I do understand. In metal works a few mm here or there creeps in despite best tries. You are right though had it been aligned it wouldn't have snapped. But I still feel.the manifold bolt would have been better for the job. Cause all ur reinforcement was in one plane. Like supporting it only in the y plane. A support from another plane would have greatly reduced the degree of freedom for.the black bracket. In that case even a single bolt in x/z plane could do wonders.

You might need to take the cases apart although I know you’re trying to avoid it, good luck and waiting for your next update.

What is a mistake without the lesson ? The best teacher in life is your own experience, simple as that. Anyways.... as far as I remember the casing underneath the aluminum block was thin. Like a few millimeters..... and you ground some material off of it in the previous episode. Now you drilled trough it and all the stress is located there. Put some duct tape around that area, because if it breaks some flying pieces of metal might get into the stator or damage the water pump assembly. I dont think its a good idea to rely so heavily on that specific area of the casing to support that bracket mount point. You might have to approach it a bit different in order to achieve a good long lasting result. Try to find a way to get some stress off this specific bolt that causes failures and distribute the load as even trough all the fasteners as possible.

I´d anywayy someho re-apply the JB-Weld: It´s weaker than aluminium, but throught its many times bigger surface of application, is maybe exactly as hepfull, as all the other, rigid connections...

@@devanandseedan9687 I usually buy from scootertuning.ca. If it's just a sport 70cc, the stock carb can work. If you go larger, I like the DellOrto PHBG carbs. 17.5-21mm, depending on future plans. 19mm is a good choice that can work well with porting and a good pipe on there if you ever do that.
