TPU Filament Joining DIY (2024)

If you're like me, and have a lot of 'scrap' TPU left over from 3D printing, and wondered what could be done with them, here's your answer!
All you need are:
1. Scissors
2. Heat gun
3. Small piece of Bowden tube
4. TPU filament to join
Cut ends of TPU to join flush -- Align ends of TPU in Bowden tube so the pieces meet at the center of tube -- Apply heat from heat gun (Temps between 400f and 600f), lightly pushing both TPU pieces inward -- Remove heat, allow to cool before removing from tube

Be careful with the temperature. Don't set that heat gun any higher. If you get PTFE tube above 275C then you get some really bad fumes. Wikipedia says: "inhalation may cause acute lung injury. Symptoms are flu-like (chills, headaches and fevers) with chest tightness and mild cough." It takes 4-8 before you know you have done any damage!
