TQ has previously made the HPR120, better known as the Haibike Flyon motor. Now they're out wit a very different motor. The HPR50 is small, lightweight and very silent. And riding it feels very different to most other motors. We test the motor on the new 2023 Trek Fuel EX-e.

This looks so promising in making smaller motors......will this make the previous motors cheaper? Yes I know they are 85Nm and above.....but maybe these new small motors will get more powerful in the short time. Excellent Review as usual 👍👍

Yeah, we're doing a follow-up video soon, hopefully. To have a look at the app. And we'll ask TQ some questions, like how much power they think this design is good for.

@@EMTBVideos a hpr120s in the flyon, now a hpr50 in the trek. seems like a hpr85 has to appear sometime soon - full fat version of the EXe with similar form factors and noise levels would really be the start of a next generation of bikes
@EMTBVideos
@EMTBVideos 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, would be cool if they could make a 75-85 that is compact enough. I don't think this design works that well for the 120. Ground clearance, chainstay length and opening for a removable battery all suffers from the big size/diameter of the motor.

If they made it just a tiny bit more powerfull and turned it into a hub motor and had a generator at the mid drive. Would it work as a Digital Drive (chainless drive system…system hybrid pedelec?

My doubt is... I ride my Rail 9.9 size XL, biker 90kg, almost in TOUR mode, never in EMTB or TURBO, alone, for rides of about 1200/1400+m. is it stupid to buy the new ExE with extender replacing my current Rail? Do I risk to me back home with ZERO battery... for last climbs?
@EMTBVideos
@EMTBVideos 2 жыл бұрын
I think the Fuel EXe could work, with a range extender. Riding with the same amount of assistance/amplification the Fuel exe should have better range due to lower max power. But the Fuel exe enters limp mode at 10% on the main battery. It gets very weak. So if you plan on draining the battery often, it's good to know it's not much of an ebike towards the end.

You would think so but from all reports so lacking in friction that this motor could last for a very long time.

What is dripping out of the battery at 10:12? Did the bike get a bath??? Would like to demo this bike

Well spotted (: Yeah, I washed the bike just before filming. Quite a bit of water actually, but it seems the battery cennection isn't exposed.

if you use High mode will it give you more than 50 NM? because i read 200% ... what does 200% mean here?
@EMTBVideos
@EMTBVideos Жыл бұрын
Hi. 200% is the "amplification" or "gain". The motor senses rider input and amplifies it. So if you pedal 100W, the motor should output 200W. But I believe that depends on cadence and how hard the rider is pedalling. No emtb motor will offer maximum amplification for all pedalling frequencies. On the Trek Fuel EX-e, the motor was set to ~150% amplification in the highest assistance mode. I don't know if it's the same for other brands running the HPR50, like Scott. Anyway, we connected to the motor with the Trek Central app and increased amplification to 200%. This does not affect maximum motor power, it's still a 50Nm motor. But it affects how hard we have to pedal to reach maximum motor power. It makes the motor a bit more generous with it's power.

what motor is in 2023 Scott Lumen eRide and 2023 Orbea Rise m10? Do they all have the same WH and NM?
@EMTBVideos
@EMTBVideos Жыл бұрын
Lumen has the 50Nm TQ HPR50 motor. The Rise has the 60Nm Shimano EP8-RS. The EP8-RS is more generous with the assistance, it amplifies the rider input more, so it can come across as more powerful than the 10Nm difference suggests. Both come with a 360Wh battery, but the Rise can be bought with a 540Wh.

Take that motor and melt it together with a kindernay gearbox . It shouldn’t take up much more space than a regular shimano EP8 Thata basically the IntraDrive motor thats on the Orange phase MX IntraDrive prototype

Excellent video! I suspect that walk assist was almost left out is because they don't want hackers converting it into a throttle. *
@EMTBVideos
@EMTBVideos 2 жыл бұрын
They talked about it during the press launch and they said they weren't sure it was needed. But yeah, there could be other reasons.

Hackers can implement a throttle either way. I doubt they care much about its market because it voids warranty either way.
