If you have any doubt about Elin being the top dog in the automobile upholstery world, just look at his scissors! Thanks for showing this, Elin! You are not only an expert, but a great teacher as well.

Hi Elin! At some time in the future, I have 2 Spitfire hardtops to restore and line this is so helpful. I have no skills and at 72 years old trying to learn every aspect two restore two spitfires (basket cases). Your library is invaluable to me I can never repay you for all the wonderful Indepth videos. Not to mention the inspiration to forget age just get on with it, it's all doable. Thank you.

These are all GREAT videos. I confess I am more an MG man and find the general body and chassis repairs more interesting than the ones specific to TR6 or Spitfire. The engine videos are interesting to me because whilst I have an MGA, I also have an MG Midget 1500 which we all know has a Triumph engine. Forgive me if I skip some of these videos in preference to the ones on body repairs on the cars, including the Miata which I find not only interesting, informative but also inspiring. This particular one is of interest to anyone doeng work on hoods and soft tops of any car I think. I wish more youth would watch and learn about metal fabrication. Whilst I am now 70 years old I am still learning new things from Elin and have more time to practice.

I'm surprised there's actually a headliner kit for a TR6. No Dynamat or other sound deadener? My Alfa Romeo Spider hard top didn't have a headliner so I'm going to use some sticky-back sound deadening foam without fabric like I did in my Jeep TJ hardtop. It made a real difference in my Jeep TJ road noise.

looking forward to part 2. hoping this helps others - i chose a gt6 weatherstripping after talking this thru with Albert at TRF. my original seals were 3 pieces - header with no seal, but finisher for the liner, and the side with seals. The GT6 is one piece, cut to length. I'll use 1 piece all around, trimming the weather stripping from the finisher on the leading area, and then cutting the 45 angles at the b post with xacto, or xacto blade - not sure yet. but my hard top is coming back from paint this week, and i need to get my glass in, and finish the bottom, which is bad and original. really helpful here, Elin - thank you. #GuvnaL

Hi Elin, I love your videos so informative and confidence inspiring. I've or I should say my husband has just started to refurbish the hardtop for our TR6. Its due back from painting soon and the next job is to fit the chrome trims. Do you have a video that shows this. Many thanks

Thanks for posting this video, Elin. It's very helpful after our recent discussion about Cheftush's TR250 hard top and the one for my TR4 (which are different, because his is fiberglass and mine is aluminum). I now have a much better idea what's involved and what pieces I'm missing. Thanks again!

Nice job Elin, I have 2 to replace at some point. I will be waiting to see your finished product. Any idea if black fares better than white as far as shrinkage at the rear window?
@jamcdona2 жыл бұрын
I'm re- doing my seals on my hard top, and I'm wondering where those wonderful window seals came from? As far as I know they don't make them with the 90deg corner-they are just one piece now?

Do they sell the headlining kit in white ? I think white would make it a bit lighter in the cab.

Are you in California? I have several British cars you know so much about this cars the will be very helpful for us as a customers to have someone like you locally to keep these cars on the road man ..! By the way I just got a factory hard top but is missing the bowls the hardware and the widow and under hard top seals Do you know where I can get all those things ?

I have a hardtop for my 78 Spitfire and while the headliner is not totally wrecked, (it has a slit or two in it) the rear window is intact, but the gasket has turned to coal. I'm scared to death about cracking the glass getting it out as the rubber will probably need to be ground out of the frame. Spitfire glass is also unobtanium, so if I screw it up... I talked to a couple glass places and nobody will touch it.
@philtucker12242 жыл бұрын
Do it very carefully!
@RustyBeauties2 жыл бұрын
Just cut the gasket and remove the lip that overlaps the glass. Then pulling the glass out is easy. Once the glass is out you can deal with the rest of the gasket. I've done it many times this way and it easy. Do not be scared :)
@GraphicMill2 жыл бұрын
These factory hardtops seem so hard to find. And now the glass is no longer available? Is there an alternative for the glass? Acrylic? Can you still get the seals and the window rubber gasket?
@philtucker12242 жыл бұрын
Do you have spares?
@RustyBeauties2 жыл бұрын
There is no alternative that I know of. When I was in the limousines we used a company in the States that made custom glass for our projects but the quality was horrible. The glass was wavy and the shape varied from one end of the glass to the other. I guess it was hand made... Anyway, I guess that is an option, but I wouldn't go with it unless absolutely necessary

Maybe someone could put the contact adhesive in a tube or caulk gun for the spots that require more detail. Someone smarter than me could invent that.
@RustyBeauties2 жыл бұрын
This glue is actually sprayable. But mine has gotten pretty thick and I decided to brush it on. I also didn't wan to clean the gun after LOL

@@RustyBeauties Right, I use aerosol contact adhesive for installing outside corners on drywall but it goes everywhere.
