Earned The Title and my Emblem at Parris Island in May of 1979. Was medically discharged from Camp Pendleton (kickin' and screamin') in May of 1981. I'm STILL a Marine, through and through, after all these years......still wear my t-shirts, hats and sport The Emblem on my Dodge Ram. I worked for the VA for 20 years after, until my health just gave out, but I did my damnednest to never EVER leave a Vet behind, no matter what branch they served. I was there to squeeze that ambu bag to give them the breath of life, I was there to hold their hands when they passed and I was there to shoot the shit with them and listen to their stories and tell them some of mine. We Marines.....we're a team.....a fraternity (that also admits a "Few Good Women", too!!) and a really special club that is envied by many, earned by few. Semper Fi, brothers and sisters!!! OOOOOOO RAH!!!! Us old guys.....we're still here, still tough and we stand proud behind you, always.

Once a Marine always a Marine. I couldn't even get to the yellow footprints due to medical issues, for some reason they prefer recruits to be able to remain concious. When my Marine graduated from Parris Island as a PFC I was so incredibly proud and awestruck at the pride each and every Marine feels. I'm very blessed that some of my closest and truest friends are Marine Veterans and Marine family members.

Served years in 29 Palms, 3rd and 1st Tank Battalion, you always knew who the bull in the woods was, in the Corps. If you didn't you would get lit up in the field. Most part was great camaraderie, I never had to worry, my Marines always had my back, on and of the battle field. I recall one night got in a tight spot out in town, my back against the wall. The boys that were coming at me, got white as ghosts, in the face. I turned around and saw my Marine squad, in the reflection of the moon, against a fence watching over me. Big boys from the big Ten conference area, Ohio, Michigan, Penn State, all mechanics, from my Platoon. All I remember was, calm, cool heads, saying, "hey Ski, lets go get a cold beer". God Bless the Marine Corps. Semper Fi!

My son went thru Basic in 29 palms...Became a Marine on December 18th when they handed him his EGC...came home for 10 days and knocked on my door in his dress blues and this Dad had a tear cause I know the hell he went thru...When he left home again was sent to Camp Leguine if I spelled that right...became a Mortarmen, did alil Scout sniping with his best buddy from Alaska and we are from Arkansas...thank God he didn't haft to use a mortar but went to Iraq and Afghanistan on a opsec mission...lost a few buddies in a IED attack came home and a Marine from his new Alpha Company stuck his MP5 in his mouth and took his own life...I make damn sure that I talk to him everyday cause he has PTSD from all that he seen, but he tells me I don't regret it cause when we crossed back into the states he knew first hand that Freedom ain't free...Much Love to all USMC, Semper Fi, Do or Die...RAH
