Here I am a 62 year old man, bawling my eyes out to this song. It was about the time this song came out that I stopped listening to country music. I became disenchanted with the direction it was heading. Hearing this allowed me to remember the way country music was when I was younger. Trace is a great story teller, akin to the greats like Don Williams, Vern Gosdin, Charlie Pride, Mac Davis, and Kris Kristofferson! If only today's artists could find that magic!

Chido-Guan I know I’m commenting three years after this comment, but I think you missed the point of the song. It’s not saying that it all goes downhill, but that every moment of your life, even if you don’t know it now you will look back and miss it. Whether that was when you were an innocent kid in high school or 27 living paycheck to paycheck in a crappy apartment. Every moment in life should be savored and not treated as just a stepping stone for the “better times” later on

I cry every time to this song because i know how that when im 18 im gonna walk out that front door and drive away in tears from having to leave the people who have supported me and have been the greatest parents ever. but always makes me feel better is i know im gonna turn my ass around and hug them both then see them in like a few months for holidays or just so i can see them. it also triggers a memory from when my dad would sing whiskey lullaby to me while dancing with me to help me fall asleep and how he would do the same when i was a baby.

Still listen to this song I heard it as a child on the radio but found out I was pregnant with my rainbow baby almost 2 years ago and still sing this song to her. I did all the time while inside the womb walking to work as a waitress and brings tears now 5 months with a other girl and holding her big sister singing this to both of them. Parenthood is hard but worth it . Everyone says your life is over especially if you're a young mom or dad but it's quite the contrary. My babies saved me and I never knew I could love anyone so much or be loved so much no love is stronger except God's and I thank him for him giving me them when he did because they change your life for the better. All the snuggles laughter kisses everything is worth it, and it does get better. Another good song is Trace gonna miss this

Im 15 years old and this song has a double meaning to me. 1. Despite still being young I do miss the good old times because nothing in my life is the same anymore, my family is not the same anymore and this songs mkes me think how messed up everything is. 2. This song helps me to appreciate my youth and realize how fast life really is and the love of a parent. I think about my dad when I hear this and that's why I cry. My advice: Take NOTHING for granted. Cherish every moment, before you know it you'll be graduating and looking back saying, "What the heck happened?" Junior High is an adventure, a rough adventure, but an adventure nonetheless. It's okay to be scared, but don't let that keep you from having a blast! (Sorry I just really needed to vent, thanks!!!)

My sister shared this song with me when I graduated and she was right, although I had it rough growing up. I do miss being young and with out the pressure of being an adult and the stress that comes from it and I miss living with my mom. I wish I would have been a better daughter and created more memories with her. She lives 8 hours away and all we do is talk on the phone now and see each other a few times a year. We are closer now than ever but physically farther but now that I’m an adult and a mom. I realize how much she loves me and still does. I now have a daughter (3 months old) and I’m almost 30 and I just pray me and my daughter have a beautiful relationship through the years. I pray she doesn’t make a lot of mistakes like I did, I pray she doesn’t have a difficult up bringing, I pray she finds God at a young age. I pray and hope that she will grow up to be the happiest little girl and accomplish all her dreams. I pray she will have more confidence and be more wise then I was growing up. I’m proud of my self in some areas but some things I wish I could go back in change. Like I wish I could have went back and stayed with my high school sweet heart. We are married now but I wish I could have loved him many more years. Life is beautiful now but i wish i appreciated alot of things from my youth. Okay end of rant 😅

Almost 11 years later haha, yep. My life hasn't changed much--I'm 26, i want to find someone to love, marry him, live with him, have a family with him, but I'm single, a college student, and I don't have a 'real job' (I do work study). I'm 9 months away from graduation and this time next year, I'm going to have a college degree and a career. Not to mention the fact that I've barely seen my family since living down here, my schedule is so hectic. I truly do miss my home and those days when my parents were right down the hall from me. I graduated high school in 2012 and just finished a certified Personal Trainer program at San Jacinto College in 2017. Lord willing, I will be 24 in November. It's interesting how throughout a majority of the program, I wanted the school years to go by, get busy by starting a new work routine in life, but after recollecting on the past it went by quickly. School gave me a sense of direction, purpose, and a thing to accomplish. Now, I'm beginning Summer by waiting to take a certification exam and eventually look for work. It's kind of boring and depressing because it's a time of waiting/being in limbo. It leaves me wanting to appreciate the time of being in school when there was more to do. Lord willing, I can go back to college and get more basics done to transfer to a university in time. Thank you God for getting me this far in life. Appreciate the good

My seventh grade teacher once played this song in our classroom on the last day of school. To this day I’m still listening to it and knowing he was so right about how time doesn’t wait for you.

i’ve been thinking a lot about the past lately and i feel like people naturally look back and think things were better than they were. whether you’re missing a person, an experience, or just a period of your life, you’ll always look at the highlights and forget about the downsides because the highlights are the only things you miss. i’m only 16, but i’ve been through a lot and i can’t remember a time in my life when i wasn’t struggling with something. that doesn’t mean i don’t often find myself reminiscing past years and wishing i could get moments back. today i ended up thinking back to freshman year and really missing it when in reality, i was not a happy kid then and spent a good portion of my time reminiscing my 6th and 7th grade years. point is, it’s so important to take in every moment for what it is - good and bad - rather than wasting that mental energy obsessing over times that probably weren’t that much better than where you are now.

I love this, I had pretty badass times at school but I remember not being able to wait to leave and turn 18. It was at around 17 that I started to think, I wish I could go back to school for a while and just enjoy not having to really care about anything! Now I'm 18, I'm not saying I don't enjoy life as it is and I'm still young. But boy I do miss school and my mates

I’m 34 and I noticed for the first time last week that my Dad’s hair is completely grey now. He’s 66. And it was just another reminder of how I don’t have forever with him. At best I have MAYBE two or three more decades. My time with him is running out and I’m trying so hard to hold him close as much as I can. But everyone we know will slip away from us some day, some how. So make as many good memories as you can and appreciate in the moment. He gave me a big bear hug today and this song came into my head because I am definitely going to miss this someday.

for all those in high school, wait until you're a senior in college and then you'll truly understand what it means to miss all of this. summer quarter just started and this is my last year at the university and most of my friends graduated this past 2013 school year..as i type this in the library i feel so much nostalgia of the late nights i spent with here with friends i may never see again as they start on the next chps of their lives. cherish every moment. don't blink.

I really don't wanna grow up...i wish I was younger. Then at least I'd still have my uncle. He raised me like his own...I miss him a lot...growing up sucks...hold onto being a little kid as long as you want. Keep believing in those fairy tales

Give it a little think now and again as your rushing through life thinking you wish the baby would stop crying, the 9 year old would stop bugging you, your old mom/dad wants to see you more often, maybe it will help get you 1 more magical memory that will stay in your heart until the end. That's why I listen. I've got two babies of my own too, one's 21 the other 19, hard to believe, like the man said. Doesn't make those hard moments easier, just keeps it in perspective at the end of the day, maybe you can lay your head down and smile. I wish I did more of that when I was younger....so I try to do it now.
