Trace Anything is a drawing app designed for anyone looking to improve their skills.
Whether you're a professional artist looking to master the art of portrait sketches or a beginner just trying to draw a heart that isn't lopsided, Trace Anything will guide your hand with an image overlaid on top of your work.
Simply upload an photo or line drawing that you would like to trace (or browse for one off the web for practice), adjust the image until it is easy to see, and position your phone above the page with a tripod, cup, or stack of books. Trace Anything will keep everything aligned while you trace the contours of the image. You can get set up in minutes, and there is no printer, tracing paper, or lightbox needed!
Because it doesn't rely on transparency, Trace Anything works with any art medium and any size: Pencil on paper, oil on canvas, hot iron on wood, and paint on a wall can all be traced from a reference photo on your screen.
NOTE: Trace Anything will make an image look like it's overlaid on top of your drawing, but the image will not actually appear on the paper! To use the app, you must trace while looking through the camera output on your phone’s screen, as smartphones do not yet have projection capabilities built in.

The issue with a similar app I have and I can’t find a proper solution is that I use a larger paper. If I fit the size of the picture to the size of the screen it turns out very small on the paper. Because I can’t get the phone far enough as I put it on glass cup. So I zoom in, draw, then move the picture around. Then the problem I have when zooming in out and along the sides is that I loose alignment. It’s very tricky

Buy a mini projector for fairly cheap and try using that instead connected to your phone/computer via HDMI

Its good for its purpose to lay in proportions or quick study stuff but careful! The image gets sometimes out of focus even with a tripod!! You better trace fast and accurate...! Takes a while getting used to. I recommend if you have Gorilla tripod, hold it steady on the table with the other hand or the phone will drop..because its heavy 😅😂 Don't expect miracles... Use tracing to learn or analyze. Do the real work woth fundamentals to really get good at art~ don't just copy, understand ! What and why .😊

Too late but Id suggest trace it first on small size than blow it up using a printer.... Or make it on an A4 then use a good old fashion projector to cast it on the surface... If you have newer Android. Use Davinci Eye instead. It uses AR to project stuff ~

@@jeanneduncan3522 You just looking on the screen which shows your drawing hand on top of the picture you are drawing. I find it easier to just trace the pic right from the screen, putting thin paper on it (just be careful not to damage the screen with your pencil point).

You first trace it small then you can use the grid method (KZbin it) to enlarge your image to any size you wish. Sure. Takes a bit of work but it gets it done....or use a projector

I know that this video is 2 yrs old I just started googling this because I'm considering using this app the problem is could I really call myself a real artist if rely on this all the time (I hope somebody answers back)

YES, The old masters traced also. Look up the story on the Camera Lucida. Tracing speeds up the process of getting to the end result. All along the way you make decisions will you purely copy or add your own artistic changes? Obviously for a portrait you have to get the eyes, nose, and mouth correct otherwise the portrait is just OFF, placement and proportions do matter. You can go wild being as artsy as your ability allows for after that. You can make it almost an exact portrait to zany and wild. With this you can combine photos, You can trace two boats from different photos into your scene, then add a traced whale all to the right scale of your final piece. You could add a horse on a beach scene. You could put someone into a forest, or on a safari petting an elephant. It's your imagination and your art!
