Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt - Protection [Live]

"Protection" is a collaboration between Massive Attack and Everything But the Girl singer Tracey Thorn, that appeared on Massive Attack's album Protection on CD and 12" in 1994. It reached #14 in the UK Singles Chart, staying on the charts for four weeks.
The song was also included on Everything But the Girl's compilations The Best of and Like the Deserts Miss the Rain.
The song contains samples taken from 'The Payback' by James Brown,
namely the hi-hat/bass figure that drives the beat and the recurrent wah-wah guitar chord. The aggressive, upbeat revenge scenario in James Brown's track has been inverted to be a song about safety and healing.
Michel Gondry directed the music video for the track.

I'm sorry if I'm repeating myself. Ben's Caruso song knocks my socks off every time I hear it. After the cover of River by Madeline Peyroux and KD Lang can we hear Tracy covering the song that starts with. Theres a man whose been out sailing in a decade full of dreams?

Thank god for Tracy and Ben. Tracy has the voice of an angel Ben does something very similar. I've been a devoted fan since that debut album. Distant Shore. If ever a female voice fitted in the same box as Joni Mitchell it'd be Tracy.
