Help. I'm in a dilemma. I need a dect-base. And I have two options which both involve demoting a fritzbox to a switch and the wifi shut off. That is bitter enough, but they both have more than 1 LAN port, which would make it a waste using it just as a voIP gateway (as if turning off its DHCP server wasn't enough). So, to not leave the other ports empty, I thought up 2 options. Note that Fritzbox uses LAN 1 as WAN at switch mode. Option 1: I use the Fritzbox 7330 which has 2 LAN ports and connect LAN 2 with my pi-hole which will get powered by that fritzbox's usb port. That way all ports are occupied. What goes to waste from that capability of the device is the following: Wifi and NAS. Option 2: I use the Fritzbox 7360 which has 4 LAN ports. LAN 3 gets connected to the pi-hole and LAN 2 gets connected to the ethernet socket of my wall mounted access point. Both the AP's ethernet outer port and an SSID have VLAN-ID 2. To connect that SSID to my subnet and to connect the SSID of the other AP on the other subnet, as the wall AP's WAN port is a tagged. That way most LAN ports are occupied with only one left unconnected. What goes to waste with this option beside wifi and NAS is the following: That would make the trunk port between router's eth1 and some switche's eth 2 unnessary. So far it was that trunk line that hooked up my desired SSID to my subnet. And accomplishing it was a long quest paved with disappointment. I don't know what I did differently on TP-Link, but it just didn't want to obey my VLAN path. Connecting my SSID VLAN2 to the Fritzbox would probably give me a better ping, but the direct connection would come at a cost: I would need to enable gigabit LAN on LAN 1 & 2. And the fritzbox consumes about 10% more energy each port set to a Gbit/s. With demoting a mid tier router I want the energy cost as low as possible. Also comes sacrificing a trunk line which almost drove me insane accomplishing. And connecting my subnet to a socket which is meant to provide me with DHCP from the WAN and internet doesn't ... feel quite right. But with the other AP's SSID with the same VLAN-ID I can deal with that. But sacrificing a trunk line? What should I do? Which Fritzbox should I choose? And does anybody have a voIP DECT alternative which can work with all the cool stuff Fritzbox can offer with or without Fritz Fon? But with PoE, and without wifi and of course only one ethernet port? With putting my own ringtone to my handheld and a picture of my on Fritz Fon C5 or any dect handheld. Smarthome functions would be cool too. By the way, I also need a wifi name for SSID VLAN2. Does anybody have an idea on that? I want something cyberpunkish. So far it's called MJ-XX as is my router's hostname. But I want something better. Some epic, especially Latin or Greek name goes too.

@@localforearm1627 Nope. I ditched the Fritzbox brand. Now I'm using two SFP VDSL modems on a switch in the basement and each of the two subnets dial in with a microtik router via the switch in the basement and the according sfp-module. The mentioned switch and the routers along with the access points all use VLAN. For telephony I use Innovaphones with ISDN ports and connected ISDN DECT bases with it. Each of these subnet's routers are fed by power over the ethernet. Subnet 2 even only has the telephone handset use up the socket in the network corner. A better solution than the disappointment of an overpriced router that is Fritzbox which I removed in each subnet. After two years of asking them to make price according improvements, they did nothing and wanted their products to stay useless for their price tag and day and age. Of all that, my money was better spent on a fritzbox. When fiber to the home comes I know my next router isn't gonna be a Fritz box. I am utterly displeased with that brand. What a pathetic router for its price. I'm embarrassed that that's what a German router manufacturer has to offer for its price tag in 2023.
