I think these comp lanes are the best thing I've ever worked with in a DAW. They've sped up my workflow 100x. You have no idea. Especially when I need triples, it's so nice to be able to record, and test different versions of a take against other versions on the fly without it taking up my whole screen with takes. I love it so much!

Well done. Waiting for part III ! I'd like no know what about editing while comping? I saw a long discussion about it and about syncing during the development: what if I delete, change, stretch items in lanes after comping? What if I edit comped material?

Love it! Cant wait till you do a video on layering! I record solo, and to be able to put a track on loop, press record, and then comp this way is much easier than takes way of things than takes were IMO. Can the lanes be different colors or are they stuck to the track color... ill find out when i get home. lol. Thx Kenny. Dope work as always

One of the most useful features. Comping done right finally. This is jsut perfect. I have nit used it yet but I can see once learning it how easy it will make to gather comp vocals etc.. I saw that we can have takes within a lane. So can we select all takes at same time? Or also can we record to multiple lanes at same time?

Is there a way to hide certain lanes while keeping other ones visible? Let's say you have three or four different comp lanes and out of particular moment you really only want to look at one of them. Just trying to understand if there's a way of making those other lanes not invisible temporarily on an individual basis.

I don't think so. You could duplicate the track and clear out lanes that way though.

@@ARE_YOU_SICK_OF_YT_CENSORSHIP Yeah. Here's hoping it's already on the roadmap. Would make it easier to use the lanes on a smaller screen. As it stands, if you were trying to cut together 6-7 guitar or vocal passes, it might start getting hard to view it all in a useful way on a laptop screen, etc.

Is there a way to consolidate / render a comped lane once you're happy with the comped track? Just to remove clutter it would be nice. I expected a "Freeze Comp Lane" option or Glue or Render or something.

im used to punching-in my vocals 10-20 times but now with this new lane thing the more lanes that are made i cant see my waveform at all and its cluttered and when i try to disable it, the trim and split recording settings cant both be turned off. i regret updating to reaper 7

Dear Kenny, can we use Comp1 for one section and Comp2 or Comp3 for another section on same track? Because as of now only one comp at a time can be activated it seems.

Yes. You can still play back as many lanes as you want (hit control on the PC or command on the Mac) but you can only comp into one at a time.

Is it possible to slip edit a single comp area within the fixed lane area? That would be amazing, but it didn't look like it was possible, glancing at the available options in the Mouse Modifiers.

you can. just select "allow editing source media while comping" under comping options. that basically allowed me to split and slip the items. even tried it on old imploded (items on lanes but are not necessarily takes) items pre reaper 7.

no one has yet to answer my question, why is there still takes? Why both takes and lanes? I ask this genuinely because I don't know. Like this is great, but why not get rid of takes? Can someone explain the advantage to takes over lanes at this point? Why have both?

why rid of a feature which works? plus Cockos strives to maintain backward compatibility imagine starting a project with takes in version 6 and not being able to finish it in version 7 why do you need to be convinced and choose? use what works best for you, different strokes for different folks

Lanes are an useful feature, but to me I it would have been more interesting simple things like: A dedicated track/lane to write "Chord names" or notations, (I'm not talking about markers /regions). It also would have been nice a remake of the plug-ins stack windows, something more like "Paranormal FX router" or even better, like "snapheap". Also "Reaper 7" theme could be much more interesting. It seems to be a small evolution over "Reaper 6" default theme and some may argue that it was not for better. Anyway... I'm sure that everyone has its own personal ideas and desires for Reaper. The most important thing to me is that Reaper keeps being Lite on resources /CPU and that it maintains the unshakable reputation as a very stable and reliable DAW. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe.

You can use the take marker for writing your chords. Or you can use item notes, but on empty items as it allow you to display the text on the item in the arrange view.

@@bensilicate I understand that but like many other things in Reaper, it is like an "workaround". It would make more sense to have a clear and dedicated "chord" track-strip like in "Cubase" or "Logic" that also should be shown in the midi-editor top ruler instead of on the bottom, mixed with text / CC/ velocity/ modulation/ etc... parameters. That was not a great choice, if you ask me. Stay safe.

Having Lanes by Default is a big mistake unless you add a button (one touch of a button to disable it). This is just awful and disrupted all my recording session. Big mistake!!!
