Just bought the same boat, and am putting the same rod holders in the front location. I flat line troll for walleye on Green Bay with my bow mount motor. Its nice to stay in the capt's seat and watch the graph while being able to see the rods.

Jim, thanks for the ideas and detailed information. I am using all of what you did to mine which I pick-up this Thursday.

Looking good man. I live in Illinois also. Just picked up a red classic xl on the black Friday special. See you on the water.

Congrats, I went back and forth between red and black, driving the salesman crazy every other day. Both good colors.

what kinda deals do they have for black friday?

@@CountryBoy1571 Sorry just seen your question today. You should look up my video "how I got this awesome deal" I go into detail on that. But mainly they just had a 400 gift card

Hey Jim, Thanks for all these videos! Looking at getting one these in the near future. Heard you live in northern IL on the border. I grew up in Wadsworth and now live in Kenosha. If you ever need a fishing partner let me know lol or are willing to show a first time boat owner some tricks and tips with launching, etc. Love your content! Drew

Thanks Drew. I also spent a few of my teen years and on in Wadsworth. I was on the Newport fire department for a few years. Look me up next Spring and we'll see about hitting a lake. If you're thinking of buying before then let me know if you want to just take a look at it, I'd be happy to answer any of your questions on things Ive learned about it along the way.

cannon also has a model made to work with the versatrack system on the tracker boats... then you can move them around as needed. looks like they are about $9 more than the ones you have... but tack on the $4 for screws and they are only $5 more. maybe somethin to check out down the road. your boat is looking awesome.... im still stuck bank fishing until i can get a boat, but the classic xl looks like the way to go!
@justjimtime16724 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info. Unfortunately the classic line does not have Versatrack. Wish it did

Thanks. The pedestal is bass pro brand sku 1852125. The sku on the seat is 76237-G. After using the seat I wouldn't recommend unless you really need something cheap to get by. It is very uncomfortable. I plan on buying 76234-CG, a bass pro seat for 54.99.

Hi Jim picked up my Classic xl in February 2021. loving it so far but was thinking of putting in rod holders as well. Thinking along lines of installing a track system. I was concerned about putting rod holders on the deck since it is wood thought they would not stay securely attached after awhile. Have you had any problems with rod holders since you installed them?
@justjimtime16723 жыл бұрын
I don't actually use them often, only when trolling and 90 percent of my fishing is casting. But they installed in metal and wood. They were tough to screw in with an impact drill and were definitely solid. Not sure if I hit frame and wood or sheet metal and wood. I'm not sure about a track system, the gunwale is small and flimsy too. I couldn't even mount a cleat on it, half is in the boat and half outside so screwing anything to the center is a 50/50 shot of the screw ending up on the outside. let me know what you find, a track system sounds good for other things too, but I wouldn't worry about stability if you hit metal like I did. Hope that helps

we have those cup holders on our patrol boat... just keep an eye on them. the arms tend to wear out and break off...
@justjimtime16724 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I could see them breaking pretty easy. They are pretty cheap and flimsy. Let me know if you come across anything better. I haven't looked very hard but I may replace them sooner rather than later
@tannerherrick98924 жыл бұрын
After some time are you happy with where you mounted your rod holders? Thinking of doing the same.
@justjimtime16724 жыл бұрын
Yes, Im happy with the spots. I feel like your kind of limited with choices. In the front I would have preferred forward of the seat, but I plan on having 2 in the front and 2 in the back eventually and I didn't want the stowed trolling motor blocking one. so I chose to go where 2 could go evenly on opposite sides. When the rod holders are not in the brackets I don't notice them at all

What was the tube of stuff that you used on the screws?

What type of screws did you use for the rod holders

Do you have links to your pliers/scissors pouch and casting seat?
@justjimtime16724 жыл бұрын
The pliers scissors were bought directly from Gander mountain about 5 years ago, I believe the are Berkley. I really wouldn't recommend the seat its very uncomfortable

There is a different seat at Bass pro that is triangle shaped and I think cost somewhere around 50, that I plan on trying

What size screws and length were used for the rod holders? Thanks.

Sorry about the delay, sometimes I don't get the comments emailed to me. I honestly don't remember specifically but looking at it I would go with 1 1/4 x 1/4. or #12 if metric

Try the Robo cup for the post on the front and back seat posts. And you may want to show the drilling, installation parts, etc. by using a double, triple, etc. speed on the video. www.therobocup.com/collections/shop-retail/products/robocup-white?variant=37113042314
