I fish Petaluma and Napa River. I was wanting to upgrade and thought it was cheaper and simpler to upgrade to 12 V Riptide Terra Nova 55 lb. I have a friend who just recently set up his Boston Whaler with one. He loves his but power wise, it's not enough for windy, heavy tide days. So I have a 2020 Tracker Classic XL with a Minn Kota Edge 45 lb. It's fine for most fishing but I like to get the iSpot up grade and really thinking for tidal water and winds I need to get a minimum of 24 volt Minn Kota Riptide Terra Nova 80 lb. They say it's better to have more power than not enough when you trying to stay on the fish. Plus the more efficient use of power feature seems like a big plus. I am not concerned with the wire gauge but if that is a big issue, I would cut a box upfront and run it separate directly to trolling motor. I understand it's not too seriously hard to do but I like that it's "fresh space" and not having to run wiring from back plus add another battery to a crowded space. (I changed 6 to 12 gallon fuel tank.)

Don’t do it the terova is a horrible motor. Difficult to deploy especially the older you get. If you must there is no difference between the power of the 55 or 80 pound thrust. I’m getting rid of mine and get a pull rope type 12V Minn Kota.

I love the idea of ease of use for some things! But keeping in mind that tie down straps are designed to keep your boat from bouncing on the bunk during transport and not to keep it tied down during an traffic collision I don’t see the benefit of spending the extra cash.

Dumb question. Lol why not just leave the plug in?
@justjimtime1672
@justjimtime1672 Жыл бұрын
Well, you could leave it in, but it's a good practice to leave the plug out when its not in the water to drain any water that might have gotten in the boat while boating as well as any rain water from traveling. I've always been in the habit to put it before launching and take out after pulling the boat out. Either way, if you have to take the plug out ever to drain water, you wont lose it.

@@shooter3288 To each his own, I think its probably pretty standard procedure. Your question made me wonder if I was following some old misguided rules from 30 years ago that's unnecessary, so I did a quick Internet search. Everything I found said pull the plug when not in water. One person said there are laws in some states (did not verify) that make it illegal to trailer a boat with the plug in due to invasive species. I read about many reasons to do it, which make sense to me. Good luck to you though

I agree that now is bad time to buy a vehicle. Not only interest rates but the dealers are all adding more on top of msrp than ever before. I would think used if rates were lower until dealers are ready to deal again. Who knows when interest rates will drop. Definitely not in 2023. If your concerned about the wear on your truck in the mean time you could install a trans cooler. They are not that expensive and depending on the vehicle can be a DYI. With my 6 cylinder pilot I did not really even notice the boat.

@@justjimtime1672 a trans cooler is something that I'm heavily considering. I didn't know your pilot was a V6. Yes, my main concern is wear and tear. My towing capacity is 3500, so I'm under 80% but don't want to tear my truck up! I appreciate your time in answering my questions!

When I went to install my garmin unit I used the same wires that the Lowrance used (Red/purple) to red and black to black. My unit never came on. Tested it on another power source and it came on. Thought maybe a bad splice, so I respliced it.... still nothing. I know that the Lowrance was working before I cut power and ground. I checked all fuses and everything was good. All of the dash accessories work too, livewell, horn, nav..... I guess I'm just going to run a dedicated wire from the battery.... anyone else have this issue? Driving me crazy.

I think there would be room for two batteries and I did use the factory wiring for the charger in the back to the battery in the front. If you put two batteries in that compartment though Im not sure how you would charge the second one, Since there is only one set of wires from the back. Ive heard its not easy running new wires from the back to the front but I have never tried. Probably easier with the smaller gauge required for the charger than the battery itself though

Doing great. Thanks for asking. All I do to winterize my boat is change the motor oil, change the lower unit oil, and keep the on board charger plugged in to keep the batteries maintained. My garage usually doesn't get to cold for very long in the winter, might occasionally get below 30. I have been concerned that water might be trapped in the lines for the live well. Water in the bilge/ livewell hoses shouldn’t be an issue. They’ll flex and expand. I empty the gas, or leave about a gallon, add some stabil and let the engine run for a few minutes. I fully charge the batteries, then disconnect them completely. I stow the motor in the down position, then wipe down all fuel lines inside and out with WD40. I think that’s about it

nice! I followed your install for terrova on my 170 I was looking for a way to make sure I could remove the motor in the future and that mount is perfect.... BUT I used a1/2 inch thick piece of the black plastic starboard the kind that transom savers are made from (wish I could figure out how to attach a picture but oh well) cut to fit under the mount and motor (bolts go through mount, starboard and under deck) back to the deck cut in line with the black mat on the other side, it adds some stiffness to the deck and keeps the motor from scratching the boat when sliding it back to remove it.... the way it worked out it covered all but one hole, I even used two of the holes to hold the starboard down. I think I may get some of the gator skin stuff to place to the side of it and maybe on the back of the boat as well. -- nice job great idea!
