Nice hike Jeff. Lol. I'm a north central MA hunter. Don't have big woods. Small woodlot hunting is most of what we do. I appreciate the physical effort you put in. Hate to say it, I don't have the time or energy at 58. You fill a niche for us older people who miss the big woods hunting.

Had a long day like that myself a couple weeks ago,i got close to him but didn’t see him. I went out the next day where i left off and he walked my boot tracks .i tracked him about 300 yards.While stopped and scanning the wind had shifted he was 30 yards away bedded and jumped up and i made a 40 yard shot on him.The stars finally aligned for me, it made the hunt that much better for me knowing how hard i worked for him. Hope this is the big one you got!

Even a day of being shutout hunting and just hiking, is better than any day at work. 12.6 miles of tracking in the woods, is like equal to 25 miles of path walking, that's a workout. Love the video Jeff and Merry Christmas to you and the family. Rock on Sir 🤘😎

Hey Ryan, great comment! I also hope the video reflects how much effort, and how little action there can be tracking and hunting in the mountains. It always looks easy on the days I get a buck but there are many days leading up to that like this one where it was not.

Jeff, have you ever considered coming South and trying West Virginia out? Some counties have some real quality bucks, and I think we're overlooked with Pennsylvania and Ohio being right beside us. But our WMAs and national forests have huge tracts of big woods! It's a bit steep in lots places, but this type of hunting is applicable to the big woods we have on our public lands. The only thing is we don't always have snow for the rifle season, but the higher elevations normally do and the whole state normally does come muzzleloader season. If you ever find yourself down this way look me up lol... Been watching you for awhile and your videos are top notch, too many people are worried about "the kill shot" being filmed. It's all about the journey to me though! No matter where you hunt there is something to take away and learn from in your videos and that's what draws me to them. Your understanding of deer and their behavior is admirable to say the least! Happy hunting and Merry Christmas to you!

On days like this hunt, it’s pretty easy to keep track of things because I was essentially in a giant valley between 2 mountains and the weather was clear. But on foggy or snowy days I don’t have that visual and it’s pretty easy to get turned around relying on sense of direction so I use my compass and OnX a lot on those days

Four years on the same batteries out 27/7/365? I must be using the wrong batteries. Great video.
@jeff_doyle2 жыл бұрын
Haha, I had a different camera that only lasted a year, same energized lithium batteries. I think the difference was a few factors. I had it set to transmit once a day, medium res photos, 10 second delay, 2 shots, low sensitivity, and optimal trigger speed. It also was a poor set for deer but did get a big variety over the years (moose, bear, deer, coyote, fox, even a turkey).
@KeepinYouUp072 жыл бұрын
@jeff_doyle I have the same cameras & python locks. Those lithium batteries are a lot of $ but well worth it. My only advice with those cameras is to set them in your backyard for a few days before putting them in the field. I've had 2 brand new cameras malfunction on me. Thanks for the video.
