Had a job where a tech reported an icfr of 9db on a 6mhz docsis carrier. Nonetheless, I was excited to see what the carriers looked like with that much distortion. Turned out to be water in a trunk line fitting upstream from the amp I tested.

Just terminate the amps output with a 75ohm resistor to rule out any downstream problems. Saves you a whole lot of trouble.

A-holes digging and cutting feeder with dull cutters never blow the fuse. We cut with proper tools, core feeder with no spark it blows the fuse, power inserter and power supply and if it is cold and rainy enough the node too.

Would have went for the TDR first because that would tell all. I'm sure people would rather have you TDR, Short the output, terminate the output, swap the amplifier so they can see how each thing is done. I appreciate the effort and the fact you don't have endless time. To those out there, throw away the DSAM and the Trilithic DSP. Using them is a waste of time when you see the Viavi find stuff like a hound dog. Look at 0:34 and check out the black line which is noise under the SC QAMs. You'd have to go to two different screens to see this with other meters.

Nice quick lesson. We just got our new Viavi meters a month ago. They seem to give a lot detailed info that we need to improve and keep out system right.

JR Schultz as a maintenance tech the Echo feature is helping us find corroded cable and connectors long before service impacting issues arise. Awesome tool to have. Much better than the DSAM meters we had.

@@thebasiccablechannel7464 I miss DSAM for one reason: Speed. ONX is an improvement in almost everything with the drawback of it being slow as ****. Mine has also got stuck sometimes and iv'e had to reboot.. Had some weird bugs that's for sure.

Good video. I'm going through the comments and there are a lot of hatters out there. Good job on informing on the many problems we see out there.

I thought that the ICFR and ECHO that you are seeing on your meter would be a representation of what is upstream from you. Here this is what is reflecting back.

Maybe just look in Unified or rio and see whom has no signal you would not have wasted so much time. Next tap down would have no signal..duh!

I knew that everything past that amplifier was offline by using online tools. I went to it and saw the ICFR and figured it would be a good video opportunity.

Bro in the future short the output of your amp and see if you icfr goes up , there was no need to change the amp, when you short the output any reflection will not make its way back upstream.

@@thebasiccablechannel7464 Download the Viavi ONX app on your phone. Then over bluetooth you can see the front panel face of the ONX One Expert. So you are limited to the Bluetooth distance which is not that far.

Set up a mobile wifi hotspot with your android phone. Connect to the hotspot with your Viavi. Check the ip address on the viavi. Then use a VNC app on your phone to log in to the Viavi. Works within wifi range.
