In Canada, for the past 2 years, Kyle and his team have been tracking cougars at the foot of the Rocky Mountains in Alberta. While this carnivore has practically disappeared from Eastern Canada, the cougar population seems to be increasing in Western Canada, where it is even allowed to be hunted. The aim of the project is to discover the interrelationships that exist between these efficient predators and their prey, in order to better protect certain species that may be more at risk from predation by these felines.
Kyle Knopff enlists the help of dog trainer Lorne Hindbo to help him track cougars. As a result, some twenty cougars are caught each year. It's a real adrenalin rush when the graceful beast finally shows its face.
For her part, Aliah is particularly interested in how humans interact with cougars. With Alberta's oil boom and subsequent housing developments, the cougar's habitat is shrinking, and it's inevitable that it will move closer to urban areas. Aliah surveys local populations to better understand how people perceive these predators.
