For the balaclava I used when I was riding my bike in temps as cold as -20c, I made a modification. I wore it with the hole for my eyes as small as possible, and I cut a hole for my mouth. Then I stitched a flap that hung down over the hole I cut. That way it would hang down and keep me warm, but when I breathed out, it would lift up and the wet breath wouldn’t freeze on it, or worse, the moist air would come out around my eyes. It worked great on a bike, because the wind was always in my face, but I’m not sure how effective it would be for walking around. Maybe give it a try.

Hi Lars, and happy new year to you and your's, I think you should have had some fatback, and maybe some dried fruit for sugar, coffee or tea, and a metal cup to melt snow in, enough for emergency anyway, if you were exhausted, calories, and a hot drink is a great energy booster, just my 2 cent's mate, not putting you down or anything, you live there so know better than anyone what you can achieve in those conditions. Do you have a video about how to tell how old tracks are? I would like to hear your knowledge on that. Also being aware of the branches above the trail for signs that it is fresh. ie. lack of frost on branches etc. Also what is you strategy as a lone hunter to find a moose do you do big circles hoping to get ahead of the animal once you find the track or do you actually just follow directly on their tracks hoping to catch up to them? do you have any videos on snareing animals or trapping. Is trapping a viable occupation in your area anymore?

Yep, when the snow squeaks that loudly you can tell it's really cold. No firearm? I realize that Google will demonetize you for showing a firearm but I have watched you reporting on a fisherman who was killed by wolves. Seems as though it would be a really good idea to have a weapon & get 1 post demotitized rather than being wolf chow.

Russia allows firearms but has pretty strict rules. I'm pretty sure he has mentioned before that you can only carry a gun in the woods if it's hunting season and you're hunting. Evidently they aren't allowed to carry for self defense. He does carry a handgun sometimes that fires non-leathal bullets. It's what Russians are allowed to have for self defense. It probably wouldn't do much for bears or a pissed off moose, but it might make a wolf think twice.
