Tracking My Evo at Virginia International Raceway

When last we left off with our trackday series, we were fresh off our second track weekend with NASA Mid-Atlantic. While Ben finished the weekend with his Evo still in good shape and ready to go, my Escort was not so lucky. Unable to get the motor swapped in time for our third and final track weekend, we'd have to improvise. At last, it was time for us to return to Virginia International Raceway, for 2018's NASA Hyperfest.

Loving the trackday content. 2:20 at VIR isn't bad at all in mixed conditions on street tires. It's one of the best tracks in North America (humble opinion), and NASA MA is a great organization. I wish I lived closer, but it's at least still less than a day's drive.

The cost varies depending on which group it is with. NASA Mid-Atlantic typically charges around $390 for a two-day HPDE event; $50 for a Hyperdrive session. Tickets for Hyperfest (which are admission-only) are usually around $40-$50. As a novice, you'll probably also want to factor in costs for track insurance ($200-$300 per event from Lockton), fuel (trackside fuel is EXPENSIVE [like $3.50/gal for 93 oct] and you'll easily go through a tank a day), and travel, food, and lodging. If you do it as cheaply (and riskily) as possible, you can do a trackday for around $500; taking insurance, staying at a hotel, not leaving the track for gas, etc., and you're looking at $1000.

Just get your car on the track! I waited so long to track my 240 thinking I needed a big turbo, suspension, etc... and after years of wasted track time I finally got my car “ready” and they sold the track and closed it down. Now here in Hawaii there’s no road course. I’m so bummed

The rules are to keep windows down. Contains shattered glass and you have to do point bys.

I see, i know you need your windows up here in Sweden on some trackdays so debris stays out. I think rally races also tend to leave windows up for similar reasons? This is the first time i have heard about point-bys =) i feel it to be unsafe to stick an arm out the window while on a track, why not use turn signals? Im honsetly curious,

I got a stock Fiat 127 from 1983, (50hp, +-800kg wet weight and a 135kmh/84mph top speed) only the tires are bigger than original. Next to that, it is my first car, and only have my license for about 7 months, and 1 month of that time worth of alone driving(here in The Netherlands you can get your license at 17, but need to drive with, example, your father who has 5+ years of license ownership until you are 18) but I am a little afraid my car is far to slow for a trackday. Next to that, I don't know how things are taken care of with instructors and so on. So what should I do? Just show up at a trackday and see how things go down? Or contact an organization to ask for information? I think both might have the same result, to little experience and far to slow of a car to be safe.
