The tires are actually give the most return for the investment when you really cash strap but still want to have fun. I am going to quote a slogan from Pirelli:"power is nothing without control." I used to paticipate a community organized autocrossing. When Ive done an upgrade from a tread wear 600 4 season tires to a 300 sport tires, the differnt is day and night. For a short 40 seconds autocross track, I can easily gain 3+ seconds a lap. The additional grip allows me to brake less, brake later, stay on power longer, put down power earlier and even shift gear less frequent. It is a joy to even thinking about it.

I tracked my FWD 2005 Matrix XR. First track day I upgraded the front rotors and brake pads to high carbon (yes only the front, the car has drums in the rear) and snagged some used Yokohama ADVAN AO48s from work. Drove to Streets of Willow and ran the entire day with no problems- had to wave plenty of people by. Second track day (a year later) I upgraded the suspension with some lowering springs, Tokiko blues, and a Front Strut Tower Brace. On the same track, Streets of Willow, I knocked off a whole minute of my time from the first track day and kept of with plenty of cars around the corners. On the straights I still struggled a bit since I didn't upgrade power/internals as I don't see the need for it. I still have the high carbon rotors and pads (replaced these some time ago), lowering springs, tokiko blues, and Strut Tower Brace. Car still runs happily as my daily beater and is fun around the twisty corners at over 190K on the odometer.

Stock all season tires, stock brakes, stock suspension, stock everything, it drags it's feet (or tires lol) to 60mph in 10.8 seconds, but it takes corners like a champ, even on stock tires. I have not had the chance to track it, just street driving with no other cars lol. It barely understeers on streets, and on tight corners it oversteers so much the tail kicks out. It'll only be better on coilovers, thicker sway bars, wider wheels and stickier rubber. It'll also be getting a full engine build, twin cam head swap from an H22, and a turbo, hopefully ballpark it'll make 400hp at the wheels. Then it'll really keep up with real cars at the track, around corners and on straightaways. Cheap, slow cars are a blast to drive fast!

@Seasexnsun how did you manage to get from 1nz 328hp, even in turbo version(150hp) max potential with stock pistons rods etc is 200hp? but the car is really good, looking to buy one for fun daily driving, can you tell me how is the car in general, consumption, and overall your experience of owning it. Thanks

This was called the mitsubishi lancer cedia in India and we had this car from 2006 to 2013 .This was a D segment sedan and the previous gen lancer was sold as a C segment from 1998 till 2012. You see we didn't get the fancy All wheel drive tech in our lancer but It was still a good fun to drive car . The Lancer cedia which we had used to have 2.0ltr petrol engine detuned only to make 114hp in order to meet emission norms . This was half a lancer to you but still a full lancer to us in India . If mitsubishi was there today with the lancer still in production I would have loved to get my hands on one of these as my first car or maybe a used beater car to learn and live with.

Just so y'all know. ES Lancers didn't came with a rear sway bar. Road race motorsport made a whole kit for it and it improved the handling and ride a lot.

My econobox was transformed with better tires, power stop z23 pads and mild suspension work. Can't do much for the engine without a swap or FI but it's a ton more fun than it was from the factory. Helps that it weighs under 2,600lbs, too.
