Josh Kerr had been plotting for weeks, wanting to make a statement in the Electric Forest. When the Stumptown Twilight rolled around, there was only one goal in mind: run flat out and take down Sebastian Coe's top mark set in Los Angeles at the 1984 Olympics. The Beast ended up running the fastest time ever in the western hemisphere.

It’s less than that for athletes of this caliber. Think ab it they average ab 14 seconds per 100 meters. There’s an official iaaf conversion u can look up

16 maybe. Steve Cram ran 3.29.67 then 3.46.3 mile a few days later. The mile wasn't an even race. He probably would have done 3.45 mile with an even pace. Steve Ovett ran 3.32.2 1500m then 3.48 mile a few days later then a 3.31.2 a few days later. 1980.

Great run. But, I don't think that kind of performance will podium at the Olympics. Especially at the end. Ok, there was no one to battle it out with, but the truth is he gassed in the final 150m, really struggling to keep form in the final 50 m.

Ryun ran 3:33.1 on cinders 54 years ago (with a 60 second first 400!) so maybe the sport hasn't progressed as much as some of us sometimes think! Great run by Josh Kerr anyhow. The Brit 1500 team in Tokyo will be really strong. Could easily get a medal. Kerr isn't necessarily going in there as our number 1!
