Hey Guys and Gals here we have Muddy Ferdinand! the 2nd loco of the 3 newest releases of november 2013. The other 2 of course being Porter and Ducks close shave. So yes I bought this one on ebay along with the other 2 and I have already reviewed Porter and He is great! What will I think of this one? read on...
******The load in the truck is my own as well as the brakevan, these are not included in this pack*******
Ok so This locomotive Ferdinand comes with a truck but no load!?? The Take n Play version comes with the Lion of Sodor statue yes this one comes with an empty truck. This greatest moments pack (the great moment when he hauls an empty truck) will retail for $35 in stores here and at that price I simply cannot recommend this locomotive in greatest moments form.
Muddy Ferdinand runs on a single AA battery housed in the removable boiler section, the drive unit is the older Thomas type. The front wheels all have split axles (an unwelcome trend these days) and the rear pair of front wheels can pivot up and down so the loco can clear obstacles like hills more easily. This is the first locomotive I have ever seen with this pivoting wheel feature. The locomotive is fairly quiet and runs well and is fast bit some surge and stall did appear after a few laps.
The mud detailing is nice but the raw red unpainted buffers with mud splattered on them is quite ridiculous I mean well other parts on the loco have some black paint so surely a dash of paint on the buffers is not much extra effort? I like the rest of the detail and the mud splatter is nice on the face and side of the smokebox. The truck is like a slap in the face having NO LOAD! The truck itself is fine if slightly boring having the misty island logging symbol matching Ferdinand. Maybe a flat car with lion statue would have been better, in fact it absolutely would have been.
I give the loco 9/10 but the greatest moments pack a 3/10. So to be clear I love Muddy Ferdinand but hate the truck with invisible lion statue so that lets the whole pack down. Avoid this one!
Thanks for watching!
