Back in 2001, we met with the most rebellious subject of the British crown : Joe Strummer, singer and guitarist for The Clash, one of the pioneers of English punk rock. Learn why he named himself "strummer", how to make yourself at home in an abandoned house and why Joe hates the opera. The footage is barely edited, to give you the most genuine experience ! Enjoy.

This guy might be legit the coolest rockstar to ever have lived. The way he describes running from the police is actually so subversive of most typical 'badass' anecdotes, he loved playing music and expressing himself, and simply doing that is such a cooler act of rebellion than any riots or messes that typically accompany a rock front man.

I thought the opposite, it showed how far Joe had fallen practically begging for people to watch him perform. Joe was one of the coolest people alive until about 1983. But then he lost the plot, fired Mick Jones and formed the horrible late version of the Clash. He became a selfish, corporate shill with nothing else to give or say.

@D MERLS wow that's harsh. Joe certainly is to blame for some and he immediately knew and regretted it but Mick was on such an ego trip so there is that. Joe still deserved better than how it was for him after the clash till his death...

It really was Steve Jones taking offence to what the vulgar interviewer said to Siouxsie Sioux " you dirty old man, what a filthy rotter..." An amazing moment in broadcasting and music.
