In 2017 I had a privilege to visit Cotonou and Widha (slave trade area) in Benin. I was wowed coming from South Africa. Flying over West Africa, I felt like I had left earth, Amazed buy the unusual but beautiful landscapes, from the sky. Shed a tear walking on the same road the slaves walked to slave ships. People are still living an authentic less stressful lives, which the West calls poverty. In my opinion these people are rich and beyond blessed, are not starving, able to sustain themselves. Rich in culture, family, tradition. Live like how God intended,one with nature without destroying it. Not greedy, consume what they need with no waste They have smooth skin, better than us bathing with luxury soaps, applying expensive products. They are super athletic, not obese. Live long while healthy and fit. Their diet is mainly fresh and organic fish, chicken, fruit and vegetables, nuts, natural oils. The streets are bustling with motirbikes, beautiful and colorful fabrics, trade. They are very creative and resourceful. Beautiful sandy beaches with rustic bars and restaurants thatched huts. The poor and rich live together in one with only petty theft prevalent. Women riding motorcycles safely at midnight. I urge Africans to tour their own continent to learn about who they are. Strength, confidence sterms from knowing where you come from.

Thank you, for sharing this first person experience of the real Africa. I have lived, loved, studied and worked in every region of the continent for most of my adult life including the southern region from Namibia to Mauritius in the East African Ocean. That’s right. I’m claiming it for Africa NOT India, a thousand miles away. Our home office was in Sandton, outside of Jo’burg and from there we had projects in Durban, SA; Meseru, Lesotho; and Mbabane, Eswatini. We then did projects in Windhoek and Port Louis. We were installing computer labs in schools. Although, I have yet to go to Benin, your experiences parallel my own travels in other countries in Africa. While travel to Africa, for some reason is always discouraged, when you go there you’ll be amazed to see every major city and resort flooded with European tourists eating everything up like it’s a secret candy buffet on a cruise ship. I only wish more Africans from the diaspora would GO AND SEE FOR YOURSELVES.

I'm white, but have always lived very much like that; even in the USA. It's not hard unless one buys into the constant push of more is better. I have always cooked from scratch, well until I got to about 71. I got ill and still after several years am slowly getting worse. My nurse aid fixes a frozen meal, I'm not sure I've gotten used to the difference in taste, but believe it's not really nourishing. Still I am better off than people I went to school with, or even my neighbors. Laying a strong foundation early in life is perhaps the best thing one can do to make their body strong. learning how to cook is easy, and cheaper in the long run. Check certain spices like Turmeric and Curcumin. Not much is needed in stews or soups and both help strenghten the immune system. There are others too, do some research and try them out

Thank you for the anthropology lesson. However, it's time to focus on France's devastating drain on Benin, the former Kingdom of Dahomey. "The French government collects from its former colonies each year 440 BILLION euros of taxes. France relies on the revenues coming from Africa, not to sink into economic insignificance", warns the former French president Jacques Chirac. Maybe the Beninese should focus their formidable spirituality on breaking the hold that removes the revenue they need to build their nation.
@justinlance41742 жыл бұрын
France has no tax on any African nation. France has french owned companies in Africa. But the french built them. And the money made is also put back into Africa to build industry. If africa dont like French jobs. Then french will take jobs elsewhere
@justinlance41742 жыл бұрын
@@jmaatgreen7894 take it back. Ur people are who sold africa. They deal with france to make money. And 500 billion of African currency goes into French banks. It's still african money they can spend however Africa wants.
@justinlance41742 жыл бұрын
@@jmaatgreen7894 their is no colonial debt. Africa stores money in france because those nations have no stabile banks or economy. If anything happens they wont loose all national assets. In return it helps France's banking. In return france gives africa free security guarantees.france also spends french money to invest in African industry. Africa would be worse off without this trade because African nations dont have the capital to re invest in their own nations for growth. Seems like a win win for both. It's all mutual. And both governments agree with the terms. If they dont the terms can be terminated. But the economy's might suffer as france provides financial backing to those african nations economy as france has a stability. Stability investors are willing to bet on. Unlike unstabile African nations alone. Also french own rights to African reservs because africa leases those reserves to pay debt from borrowing massive amounts of money directly from france.
@justinlance41742 жыл бұрын
@@jmaatgreen7894 well yes ur right to some extextent some cultures did better than some European cultures. But none did better than the best. Rome. Greece. Byzantine and so on. Yes colonization didn't help africa. But it didn't hurt it much as Africans did the same to their own people. Also I wasn't talking about history I was talking about lucrative deals between Africa and France today. Where france invest into africa. Strengthens african economies. And provided securities for nations that cany afford huge armys. And it doesn't hurt africa to hold their money in a bank of their choosing. They made that deal with france. Not the other way around.
@justinlance41742 жыл бұрын

This is stunningly beautiful. I love this magnificent story of these wonderful people. Their traditions are impowering and deeply anchored in their honour and respect for their ancestors and ancestral Gods. Their bond, love, respect and honouring of each other are quite inspiring. These qualities are lacking in this so-called modern, developed world. My deepest desire is that they be protected against the ravages and disrespect of foreigners posing as developers. May they not suffer from the actions of those scrambling for the vast resources of our ancient homeland. I also prayer that they will be protected against those who consider it their human right to purchase the ancestral land of these magnificent people for 'development.' Long live the spiritual traditions of this blessed people.

There's a Prince Hall Temple in Benin and it is wonderful to know. African heritage must be sustained against all forms of foreign adaptations. Or at best they have to be incorporated into African spirituality for us to practice them in our own way. Just like the Black Jesus in Ethiopia. It gives us a Pan-African sense of belonging.
