Volvo-Bolinder Munktells Tractor type 425 from 1957. A 30hp petrol tractor in a very nice condition for 10 bucks. The new 6v battery is like 150 bucks alone. Here we fix it up to be usable here at the farm. A nice little tractor that is very handy for small jobs.

I have always enjoyed the people who make perfect beautiful restorations, but somehow I think this is more enjoyable. You clean things and repair them as much as is necessary for proper operation and then put them into service. It's very honest and true to the original intent of the manufacturer. Bravo for the work that you do. I look forward to seeing more

That sounds like a typical old Volvo! It purrs like a kitten, as they always do. I can only imagine how loud that old B16 was without the muffler. I've heard the later B20 with twin sidedraft Strombergs with a single standard muffler and could hear it coming from 2 kilometres away, further away at night.. lol.

It is nice to work on things that were “built to last”. And designed to repair. Now everything is manufactured with planned obsolescence. To fix new stuff the manufacturer has a “part ‘till it starts” system in place.

What a wonderful tractor. The paint is good. The tires aren't all cracking and rotting off. The hydraulics are great especially now with new oil. I just bought a car in excellent shape and have been busily changing the transmission oil so it is completely changed and the transfer unit too as well as the engine. The garage said they had changed all fluid but one look at the transmission oil told me the clutch material was filling the oil. Gets 30mpg at 80mph so runs sweet. In klicks that is 48 kilometers per 3.8 liters at 129 kilometers per hour. Or 12.6 kilometers per litre at 129 kilos per hr.
@the_hate_inside1085
@the_hate_inside1085 2 жыл бұрын
In IKEA-land we do mileage measurements in how many liters you consume / mil. One mil is 10 km. so for 48 kilometers per 3.8 liters that equals 0,79 liter/mil. My 2010 VW Polo TDI averages around 0.32 liter/mil of diesel, driving with two stops at mostly 50 miles per hour, over a distance of ~20km. This is by far the most fuel efficient car, I have owned. The best I have gotten out of a full tank of 45 liters is 1050 km, or 0.43 liter/mil.

Having watched videos about other tractors of the same era as this one such as Ford or David Brown, the arrangement of the hydraulic pump is good in this machine. Unlike many it does not have to share gearbox oil and it is easy to access. It is not necessary to engage the power take off for the hydraulic system to work.

I'm in the U.S. and have been a fan of American-made Farm-All tractors for about 40 years now. I've never owned a tractor, but I became a fan when a friend took me to his dad's farm where they had a Model M that they let me drive. I've wanted one ever since. Anyway, I've pretty much strictly been a Farm-All guy all these years, UNTIL I saw these old Swedish models. I'm probably too old now to actually have a real tractor, so I'll have to figure out which of these Swedish models I like best and see if I can get a die-cast model of one. Yeah, I'm an armchair tractor lover. This 425 reminds me of some Farm-Alls, looks-wise, anyway. I love the way you produce your videos! May I offer you a tip which may let you repair that old starter solenoid here? That solenoid may be able to be repaired easily. If you grind off the rivets on it's housing and take the barrel off you will see ( or should see ) a brass contact inside which is, probably, 'burned away which is not now allowing current to go through. Carefully remove that contact ( maybe a disc shaped piece ) and rotate it to a new surface to be contacted. You may also file this contact area smooth and clean, re-assembly the solenoid, connect the battery cable and it should work again for many more years. Replace the ground away rivets with small machine screws and locking nuts. There you have it! Go ahead and get that 'good used; one, and maybe if you have some spare time later on, you can try to repair the old solenoid as I shown here to see if you can have a' spare part'.

In have been watching your channel for a while now [in the UK], and really enjoy your rescues! I am half Norwegian. My grandparents lived on Jeløy on the Oslo fjord, in the Ostfold county, next to Sweden. Which part of Sweden do you come from? I visited Sweden many times back in the 1970s on holiday with my grandparents, including even going to Stockholm to visit my aunt and uncle who were living there in those days. I grew up on a farm in Herefordshire, and worked with mainly Massey Ferguson tractors. Two 35s [four cylinder], a 65, 165, 188, and one terrible International, a Fordson Major and a John Deere. I think the BM Terrier is a fabulous small tractor, and I absolutely agree that you keep it in preference to the Ferguson 20. Grey Fergusons are really good tractors, but your Volvo BM is far more interesting. With its Volvo B16 engine it presumable is the engine grandfather to my old Volvo 240 car with a B23 engine that I had from1999 to 2010. Best wishes from George

It seems just a little short of a miracle to me that a 4 foot long exhaust pipe that weighs 10 pounds and subject to severe vibration can be held on with 3 half inch bolts. It seems like the flange would just crumble or the bolts would snap off all the time. It seems to work, and they all used to build them about the same way.
