I like the setup. The one thing I would experiment with is adding not more teeth but adding depth teeth like on a chainsaw chain. They prevent from taking too big of a bite at once. So in front of each carbide tooth here I would add an adjustable blunt tooth that sits about 3/16" higher than the tooth tip that follows it. This way you only remove 3/16" max with each cutting tooth. Having it adjustable would be handy to adjust cut aggressiveness for different types of wood hardness or different stages of stump decay.

That is great!!! Turn some scrap into a fine piece equipment.

Ok here are my thoughts. The post below about setting the opposing teeth is a good one below from Phil Lowman. Interesting choice of gear box. I am gathering it is a differential unit for a front wheel drive? Are you aware if you lock up the side that is flopping around that you will increase the output rpm? What did you use for a differential?

Looks like it works good at full throttle and slowly feeding it into your work so as not to let the RPM's drop.

Looks like it works great. I'd just slow down the hydraulic valve, or put restrictors in the lines so it wouldn't bounce as much and makes it easier to control. I have a Woods 3 point grinder I use, which cuts only in one direction but it has a restrictor on the cutting movement hose.

Nice invention!i made a log splitter operate from tractors pto..just gotta find a bigger cylinder for splitting power.

Do you know how to do a dado stack. It would make the cut a little wider & a little heavier on that side. Great job

After watching this a couple times I noticed that the teath being spread out on both sides at 90° that it takes a huge bite. If a new set of holes were drilled in the flywheel at 45° and alternate the left and right side teath it might not grab such a mouth full and choke down the engine. Like keep each side at 90° but the other side would be 45° behind. Just a thought but would require twice the bolts and nuts. Are those teath carbide tipped? Just trying to get by without having to buy factory carbide cutters to save some $$$. We don't have a huge amount of stumps but would like to build one that will last because folks call on me to get rid of stumps every so often.

Phil Lowman Yes I got carbide tips, and soldered with brass

Why don't you tie up the other end of the diffrential to get a more powerful bite.?
@coburnlowman9 жыл бұрын
I like your grinder. I'll need to build one and only use the 3 point as you have to control height adjustment. "Only one spool valve for wet lines" Do you mind passing along what you are using for cutting teath? I have a couple of 18 wheeler trailer springs that I've thought of cutting to shape simular to your teath but really don't want to anneal, drill mounting holes the heat treat again to get the hardness to hold up. Hope to hear soon and thanks for this video.

Phil Lowman I guess the material you intend to use won't last long, I use tungsten carbide for cutting teeth

Nice: I would like to build one similar but mount it on my log loader.

I would turn that gear box around and drive it from the other end so the debris is not being thrown at the operator.

That was the first thing I did, but it did not work well, it jumped like a crazy donkey. The tractor is too light, plus all joints have rather loose fitting, that why this direction of rotation some how works compare to the first try.

Life is full of risks. You stand a better chance of dying by driving in to work then a stump fragment killing you. The guy did a great job using some things he had kicking around and making it work. Ingenious I would say, not dangerous.
