Thanks for buying dad's tractor! I think you were the right person to get it. He's looking down on you smiling.

Hi Donna, it's so good to hear from you! Yes, I think it was almost divine providence that your dad sold that tractor to me. I didn't get to spend as much time with him as I would have liked, but I felt kind of a kindred spirit with him. I learned a lot from him and Leonard, and set out to do tractor pulling their way, being resourceful, making things work and not spending much money. I've done my best to keep the Deere Power philosophy alive, and I'm enjoying keeping Deere Power #1 and your dads memory alive too. 😀

Love the old tractor pulling days stories!!! I and my best friend were about 14 yrs old when his Dad started pulling farm pulls. In the late 70’s, the pulls in SW Wisconsin were on blacktop with a 5 mph lawn mower pace tractor leading you down the track. His Dad had Massey’s, and that was the funnest times of my childhood, was them farm pulls. Neighbor vs. neighbor, friend vs. friend, enemy vs. enemy🤣 and like your story, he pulled the 9500lb class against about 10 JD’s, and I remember the top of their refrigerator at home being covered with pulling trophies. Thanks for your story….cause it resparked the feeling I had when the ol’ 1100 MF would inch up a foot further than all the JD’s in the class❤️🩶🤠

Great story Bill. Every tractor puller will have at least one story about a great run against all odds. Your story made me think of many from my 50+ years of pulling. Also in all the years I've be around pulling, I've learned not to consider looks into a tractor capabilities, often a showroom shiny tractor isn't a very good puller. Early on Dave Stangle with the "Solid Junk" G1000 MM became one of my heros that I always wanted to emulate. You were talking about the landall trailer hauling your tractor. Well my dad used to work for an oliver dealer driving their over the road semi. One day their local truck was broke that usually pulled the landall trailer so dad hooked it on the over the road semi but it had no hydraulics. We hauled a couple tractors so we used the tractor hydraulics to run the trailer. We used one tractor to tilt the trailer but we used another tractor to run the bed back on. So I was sitting on the seat of this oliver holding the hydraulic lever and all of sudden the reservoir got full and blew the cap off which was between your legs and I got completely covered with hydraulic oil. I was only about 8 years old.
