They seam to fall into five categories. #1:Control problems, #2:External damage (Drive shaft, Hitch, Wheels or even entire engine mounts.), #3:Breaking a liquid seal, #4:Piston/Belt failure, or #5:Internal fuel fires. Question for you guys more in the know than I, When the puller starts his pull and get moving and maybe 50 ft into it he can tell the engine is going south in a big way, as in smoke coming out all over losing power, fire etc. WHY do the pullers stay wide open on the throttle and not shut the engine off prior to its complete destruction?

@Karl K good question. I have no idea I guess to put on a show. I personally have felt something wrong and then just immediately stopped but that's just me

I’m surprised there aren’t more runaway diesel issues at the pulls, I guess they have some kind of intake shutoff solenoid that has to be energized to stay open?
@gay4femboys Жыл бұрын
Their is an emergency shutoff in the cab of the weight truck (idk what the word is off the top of my head) that when pulled, immediately cuts off the air supply. The guy in the cab is always on the lookout for any kind of failure with the tractor and when it becomes unsafe they immediately hit the emergency shutoff. The driver of the tractor also has a shutoff just like it. But y'know, it's prob harder to hit that when ur tractor can be bucking like a bull.

Not meaning to be insulting (and I apologize, if it comes across that way), but I do have to wonder how much actual solid engineering and physics calculations went into some of these engine and transmission build and not just throwing parts at the problem based on guess-work and seeing what happens. There is a lot of pressure, torque, and vibrational resonances that I'm seeing that build up, clearly, to levels beyond any tolerances that either these engines, transmissions, or frames are capable of actually handling. EDIT: Just to prove how a little knowledge can go a long way from asking a stupid question, something I didn't know about till recently is the phenomenon of diesel runaway. So, I feel I should rescind my question above in light of this new understanding. However, I now replace it with a new question (which may be just as stupid): how come diesel engines aren't designed with an emergency air-intake shut-off for just such an occasion?
@bingbing-ti2rv2 жыл бұрын
0:27 You can see the pieces of the crankshaft case falling on the ground, then you know what's next.. that white smoke 2seconds after is the hot oil emptying itself on the floor, RPM reduce due to pistons pre-seizure, then the seizure itself, making a brutal stop of the engine wich causes explosion & flames.

Why those micro tiny handcart front wheels on such impressive machines? Why not at least a big almighty suspension so it doesnt fall apart at the first ground contact ? (Amateur question of course)
@coyoteannabis11922 жыл бұрын
Because on these type of machines, the front wheels just have to function long enough to get them on to the track. After that, they're generally in the air 90% of the time. Some competitions actually allow competitors to use a skid plate on the front, instead of wheels.
