As much as I love classic Iron, the tremendous leap in capability, efficiency, and technology in the last decade, decade and a half, is simply undeniably impressive. Shocking actually when you watch this video series and realize how analog tractors really were up until the early-mid 2000s. The integration of the modern electronic systems developed by the aviation and automotive industries really took what was a relatively shallow trajectory from the point of enclosed cabs up to the 2000s or so and caused an extremely sharp rise in the technological evolution of these machines. And, mind you, the hardware still hasn't changed much; it's all been the integration of electronics technologies. For those still uncomfortable with this rather drastic shift in the industry, I suggest embracing it sooner than later - not only is this stuff much more simple than you think it is, but it's obviously here to stay, especially with the growth of automation. This stuff is here for your benefit, should you choose to take advantage of it.

This series was really cool and well done. What I really enjoyed about it is how it demonstrates the huge diversity in farming with the use of equipment. By watching this video first, you would assume that most guys are running modern, high horsepower tractors with massive farms. However, since the series is using footage over the past five years or so, you can see that there are still many farmers running equipment successfully from 30-40 years ago. Sometimes you need the new kit; sometimes you can make due with (and appreciate) a tractor that continues to give well after it would be considered “obsolete” by some. Thanks BTP!

I collect tractor sales literature and have a fairly complete set on all brands from 1960 to today. I use that sales literature for specs and details. I also use use the Official Guide to Tractors for years of production and pricing. Tractor dealers use this guide to price used farm machines. I also talk to dealers and directly to the tractor manufacturers.

@@bigtractorpower i grew up with seeing blue tractors. I grew up with Ford and New Holland. I know a farmer who uses two New Holland tractors. A New Holland T7000 series tractor and a New Holland M series tractor, painted in Fiat colors, so it's a terracotta colored New Holland. There's a few farmers who gets a custom color paint on their New Holland tractors in Sweden, as they began farming with Fiat tractors. The first tractor i operated out in the fields was a Fiat tractor, so that's probably why I'm loyal to New Holland

I'm glad Deutz-Fahr went back to the original green with silver wheels (not the red wheels from the 70's). Your comment was dead on BTP, the costs of these tractors sure make the big articulated tractors form the 80's-90's cost effective for today.

Great video! I love watching them but I never operate them. How does gps work with fields that are curved when planting, and how do they prevent from overlapping spots that have already been seeded?
@sevans1178
@sevans1178 4 жыл бұрын
A tractor equipped with GPS has each field mapped out already. The tractor's computer knows where it's already been so it will never overlap with whatever kind of implement it's pulling if the GPS is being used at that time. If planting, the planter is also wired into the tractor's computer so it never plants the same place twice. An example would be a curved field where the rows end at different points. As a particular row ends, the computer will shut off the planter unit on that particular row, then turn it back on again once it goes into an area where it hasn't planted. it's very costly to have such a system but that's the way they make all of these things now. I don't expect a new piece of equipment today to be around in 30 or 40 years the way that equipment made 30 or 40 years ago is still being used everyday today.
@cooladam211

@bigtractorpower
@bigtractorpower 4 жыл бұрын
I will have a GPS video out on corn planting. The tractor follows a b line that is established on the first pass. As odd shape fields are worked the gps guidance will help the tractor to shut off each row of s planter as it passes over an already seeded area. It is very precise.

I enjoy your videos. My Grand Parents had farms and I grew up on a acreage. We had a old Massey Harris tractor for our one acre garden and a plow and cultivator and mower. I play Farming Simulator 17 and it is nice to see in real life the tractors from the game. Especially the mowers in this video. Autonomous tractors? I wonder how they will prevent them from getting stuck in muddy conditions and what will the computer do when that happens. All fine and dandy on flat dry ground I would imagine. Big problems in hilly/sloped or muddy areas would be my concern.

Yeah i think the teens were about the Euro-spec machines getting a stronger market share over here in N America. autonomous tractors are starting to hit the market, the German Ag shows had a few versions mainly in the mid-range hp but the big leap will be the robotic tool bar that turns into what ever you need it for, and that will be truly boring.
