I've heard many stories during "shoot" interviews about the toughness of Dick Slater. I saw him once at Madison Square Garden when he passed through working the WWWF in the 70's. He appeared to be a good worker and a good seller. When he was working the WWF full time in the 80's, he was severely missused. His booking was terrible. I DIDN'T know, however, that Dark Journey was his real life girlfriend in addition to his valet. I thought he was an excellent wrestler. I remember watching him on Championship Wrestling from Florida and Championship Wrestling from Georgia. Too bad that he fell on some hard times after he retired. I hope that he's doing better now.
@Jim-Tuner6 жыл бұрын
He has actually written a book about his life and done a couple of interviews in recent years. He eventually wrecked his back wrestling and went through years of surgeries trying to get it under control. Dark Journey was a stripper working in Atlanta. He also ran around with Luna vaschon for a while I think.

This guy sounds bitter. Knowing Sting he doesn't like getting into fights. So for him to get beat up like Tracy says, it certainly sounds like it was cheap shot. Tracy sounds like Slater just beat a bully. He even sounds proud lol. Sting is the coolest and nicest hero in the world of wrestling, and probably just let Slater throw punches at him cause he's that nice of a guy. Tracy sounds like a tool. Slater sounds like a bigger tool.

From what I heard (I know, second hand information, but so was this) Sting knew he'd fucked up (by messing around with Slater's girl) and just took the ass kicking. He didn't even try to fight back, because he knew he was in the wrong. Never heard the part about Warrior trying to get involved though. That part's new.
@tronjames63416 жыл бұрын
Sounds like Sting and Warrior had haters too.

At this point in their careers they were still green and were notorious for injuring wrestlers they faced on the regular. Nobody wanted to work w/ them because of that. Sting would eventually outgrow this shortcoming but Warrior apparently never did.

@michael503514 жыл бұрын
Robert Fuller saw Slater do that 2 other wrestlers. He wouldn't give names but said 2 others besides Sting. And to you guys calling it a sucker punch, maybe you should listen better. Slater challenged Sting and Sting walked up to him and got whipped. I think by "didnt see it coming" Smothers meant Sting didnt think Slater would actually do something. If Sting walked up on Slater it's not a sucker punch.

He dropped the Title to Jack Brisco and that was the end of his time in St Louis.

The only thing known for sure is that Sting gave her a ride between towns after Slater dumped her. There are rumors of her missing around with lots of different names (including Bill Watts).
