What a perfectly gorgeous garden you have! I am looking for new hydrangea varieties to add to my front beds...I have more "mophead" bushes than I can count...I just cannot get enough of that blue color! But I really want to branch out into some of the "newer" (to me) offerings. After watching your video I can safely say that 2 absolute MUSTS are Limelight, Little Lime and Vanilla-Strawberry. I typically prefer the round bloom to the panicle shape, but again...your video has certainly changed my mind on that score! I just found you and will certainly be back. You're just terrific! And your voice...so very soothing...and I love the fact that you've left out the music. I am a music fanatic but somehow I prefer just the human voice in my gardening videos. Weird!

The Blue Jangles have the most beautiful “blue” tone. Our native soil is slightly alkaline and the blooms tend to be on the pink side. I apply a handful of soil sulfur every fall (and spring) to keep the pH just below 7 so I could get the blue/purple colour. The panicle hydrangeas are very reliable bloomers in our northern zone 5 gardens - Macrophyllas don’t tend to do well for us without protection. Hence, I have many panicle hydrangeas. Like you I started my 1st garden some 17+ years ago with all mopheads (and smooth) hydrangeas but blooming was always unpredictable because of our frequent late frost. I tried replacing them with macs that bloom on new wood like Endless Summer lines of macs but I still didn’t find them very reliable. In the last 12 years, we have moved and started two gardens - I think I have learned to love all varieties of panicle hydrangeas. If only I had more room to plant. Happy shopping for new hydrangeas. 💚💚💚

This is the second video I watched of yours and I subscribed to see more of your gorgeous garden. I love the panical hydrangeas. I own the pinky winky and the bobo. They definitely fit into my romantic, cottage wildlife garden view. This is my second gardening year and I already see so many things I want to add or change to the garden. I started from scratch with fully paved and graveled garden. By looking at gardens like yours, inspires me to find out what plants are my favourites and I want to focus on. I have a lot to learn in designing a garden and finding out my own style within the cottage garden theme.

@TracysHomeGarden2 жыл бұрын
I started the Limelight trees from a single stem 5 years ago. It took 2 years to get to the same size as what you could get from the nursery. So I guess the limelight trees would be equivalent to “3 years” old. If you plant one now, it would be 3-4 years to look like mine.

Gorgeous garden.You have such a green thumb. Can you share when you water and how much for summer and spring season. Do you have drip lines or do you water by hand. The japanese blood maple you have looks so healthy. I do not see any drip line, how does it get watered. Your plant's leafs are so green. My plant leafs are brown or yellow, is it lacking water? Thank you

Thank kaido, I water all my plants in ground by hand. In the spring, I water 1 time a week…for example, we have been lucky to get cooler weather and rain once a week so I haven’t had to water my gardens this year yet. Once the warmer starts, I usually water the garden 1-2 times a week…but when I do water, I water on low setting and count to 45 seconds per plant…directly at the base of each…and I do two rounds of it. Hope that helps. 💚💚💚

Thank you Mai…💚 6’ is ideal for any small garden bed as it allows the layering of plants of different heights. Unfortunately the paver guys made a misread my drawing and made ours only 5’. I was supposed to have people come to widen it by another foot but the pandemic delayed everything so I have now made peace with it….but I wished we had another foot so I could allow more space for air circulation. With the "younger" hydrangeas heavy with blooms, would you recommend thinning the blooms to aid the plant? I had a bloom-laden branch break away from an established (20 years) standard the other day. I will remove it entirely because it's so disfigured. I'm thinking of pulling the suckering Ilex hedge adjacent to the standard and replacing everything with a low hydrangea hedge. I have a patio behind the hedge and like the privacy.
@TracysHomeGarden3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I think removing some of the blooms (just at the base) on thin and weak stems now will help the plant conserve its energy on getting established. Stronger roots will definitely make it a healthier plant next season. I can imagine a low hydrangea hedge of panicle hydrangeas like Bobo (2-3 ft tall…or 3-4 ft in warmer zone)….or Little Lime Punch which grows to 4-5 ft tall….it would be the most beautiful thing to have around the patio. Go for it Kate! You will definitely love it. 💚🪴💚
@Edu_Kate3 жыл бұрын
@@TracysHomeGarden Thanks for the encouragement. I'm in Minneapolis so no chance Bobo would grow as tall in warmer climates, the one in my back yard is still quite small after two seasons. I'll probably ponder this over winter. It was hard finding hydrangeas this year (until now when I'm gardened out, financially and physically)
