Your video was ever so easy to watch. YOU WENT SLOWLY OVER EACH GARDEN BED AND YOU HAVE INSPIRED ME TO GET GROWING IN MY WET AND HUMID SUBTROPICAL GARDEN IN QLD, AUSTRALIA. We can actually grow many of the plants that you grow due to our more delicate climate. The weather can drop as low as -4 C in our winters but that is very rare. It is usually between 8 to 2C and the days, if sunny, can be as high as 20C Our summer highs rarely go over 30-33C. We do get many cold winter winds, and often get severe storms in the summer but our plants seem to thrive! Your beautiful garden has given many ideas about new plants to plant this winter
@TracysHomeGarden2 жыл бұрын
Thank you Julia! Your climate sounds ideal! Our spring-summer-autumn seasons are perfect except our winters can be quite cold and harsh…I don’t mind the snow but not the severe cold temps -25C and sometimes as low as -40C (with cold wind chills). Thank you again for your thoughtful comment. It means a lot knowing that I share gardening love and interests with many gardeners around the world. Happy gardening 💚💚💚

That crimson Japanese maple is gorgeous. You’re lucky they can take full sun in your cooler Northern climate. It gives it such a vibrant color. Here in the South they like some afternoon shade

The first year - I had some scorched leaf damage and very little growth while the plant was trying to get established into it new home…the following year it started growing a little bit. This year is its 4th year and it’s the best year yet! It has leafed out beautifully! You are correct about our northern climate where the sun rays are not as intense - it can take full sun all day long in our south facing garden. The foliage is a little darker now but I think best vibrant foliage colour was in early spring. Thank you for watching Sammy! 💚🪴🙏

Hello. I created a 2nd driveway in front yard and added a garden bed to it. I was planning on an all xeriscape garden. Looking at your front garden makes me yearn for exactly what you have. I happen to live in kamloops BC. Very hot and dry in summer. Zone 5b/6. No such thing as shade or coolness here. Lol. Your front garden is in full sun? That's amazing. Are your hydrangeas able to take the full sun there ok? We get between 35 to 40 degrees during our heat waves.
@TracysHomeGarden2 жыл бұрын
Hi Andrea, Our front garden is south facing so all the panicle hydrangeas get full sun but I do deep water them during our summer but we rarely get 35-40 C so that may be why they can be in full sun.

Such a lush healthy garden. Can you use soluble fertilizer on perennial plants? Or is it strictly for annuals?
@TracysHomeGarden3 жыл бұрын
In my opinion, soluble fertilizers are not needed for perennials as most of them are not constantly using the nutrients forming blooms…they do need a “slow release food” to slowly take up and form their blooms - which is predetermined by the numbers of days or amount of sunlight they get. I have a penstemon that got some excess soluble fertilizer - it has huge foliage because of the extra “food” it gets from the hanging basket dripping down….but it’s blooms size is a lot smaller than the other penstemon plants that don’t get any fertilizers. I think perennials like coleus (foliage type)…you can feed a much diluted fertilizer to get them to “grow” larger and bigger (faster also)….but flowering perennials don’t really need them. Hope that helps Maria. 💚🪴🙏

Hello Tracy, new subscriber here. I’m gardening in Zone 5b (Chicago suburbs). You have such a beautiful lush garden - I’m mesmerized😍 I am slowly working my way through your wonderful videos, and apologies if you mention this elsewhere, but I was wondering how many years you’ve been gardening on this particular property. I’m in year 3 of a new construction home and am gradually building up my garden. Also, a specific question regarding your Banana Cream Daisies - are yours in full sun, and did they come back after winter, or are they new plants? The reviews on PW website regarding hardiness are very mixed, but yours look so beautiful so I am so tempted to rush to my Lowe’s first thing tomorrow and get one😁
@TracysHomeGarden3 жыл бұрын
Hi Anita, Thank you so much for your beautiful comment! 🥰 We have been at this new property since summer of 2016. The banana cream daisies are in full sun (south facing garden)…and they came back without any special winter treatment from me. I planted one 1-gal size container 2 years ago. One year after it tripled in size. Last spring I divided that 1 plant into 5 pieces and planted them as a drift as seen on the video here. If you look back at last year’s video - you’ll see that some clumps were much smaller than others. I’m happy to say that all of them - except for the one just to the left of the Quick Fire hydrangea tree (which is shaded by the canopy of the hydrangea tree) have more than double (maybe triple?) in size. I think our winter in Toronto maybe quite similar to Chicago (if not colder) and so I think the Banana Cream daisies should do well…except that it needs full sun to do well. They will be blooming very soon so I will definitely be giving an update soon. Happy gardening Anita! 🙏💚🪴

@@TracysHomeGarden Thank you so much for the speedy and detailed reply! It’s very much appreciated. Guess who’s going to Lowe’s tomorrow for those daisies😁 There were lots when I went on Monday…so hopefully they still have some left. Mine will go in the south facing front yard, so with any luck they’ll do well. For 2 years we had some shrubs in front I didn’t really love, so this year I replaced some of them with Invincibelles, roses and several flowering perennials. Your flower beds are my goals💕 My parents lived in Toronto (Mississauga) back in the late ‘90s, so I visited a few times. Definitely similar weather - we also get the Japanese beetle infestation around the same time😩 Looking forward to more videos, and thank you once again! Have a great evening🪴🌹✨

@TracysHomeGarden3 жыл бұрын
Hi Juanita, I don’t feed the hydrangeas in the ground - I feed them with used coffee ground - 1 cup in the spring and another in the fall. If the hydrangea is in pot, you need to mix in some bark compost and throw in a handful of Rose tone or Holly tone. The dried yellowing of leaves may be because it is getting too much sun. You may have to move it to a shadier area until it recuperates…and slowly re-introduce it to the sun after that. Sometimes when the plant has a young root system it is not very efficient at moving water to the canopy. Hope the Little Lime will get better Juanita! 💚🙏🪴

Hello Tracy love your garden , where did you get your self watering container please
@TracysHomeGarden3 жыл бұрын
Hi Maria, I bought the self-watering containers from Costco.ca However, they only have them in the spring…I have also seen some planters in-stores at Costco (for cheaper price) as well . Their website don’t have too many options at the moment. I have also seen them sold at Lowe’s as well…although they may be a little more pricey than Costco. The self watering planters are great - I hardly have to water my veggies. 💚🪴💚

Where did u get the Anna magic ball? Love it and want to buy some
@TracysHomeGarden3 жыл бұрын
I saw some at VANDERMEER nursery in Ajax (if you live in the GTA). You can probably order from the Proven Winners website if you live in the US. 💚🙏🪴

Where do you get Rose tone and Holly Tone in Canada.i can't find Espoma products in Canada
@juanitagibbs21003 жыл бұрын
I planted the hydrangea with plant tone by Espoma both by proven Winners
@TracysHomeGarden3 жыл бұрын
I have never used Plant Tone when planting before but I know many people - including Laura from Garden Answer, she always use it and gets good results. I just use some compost when planting and always get good results as well…so I think there is multiple ways to plant things depending on our preferences. Happy gardening Juanita! 💚🙏🪴

what do you do to get your salvia to stand up vertical like that? i have may night as well but mine will completely flop over. help!
@TracysHomeGarden2 жыл бұрын
The key is not to give salvias any fertilizers…like sedums, salvias do better in poor soil. Another reason may be you have to divide them every 3 years or so. All the best.

Could you recommend some good foundation shrubs? 3 ft tall and wide with good structure and something that doesn't get leggy...
@TracysHomeGarden3 жыл бұрын
I have a link for you to check out and see if you like any of the plants. For spring blooms and small size, I like the Deutzia Cherry blossom or azalea or rhododendron or some smaller size of weigela like My Monet (love it’s pink foliage); larger spring bloom shrubs I like reblooming Boomerang dwarf lilacs and weigelas like Sonic Bloom varieties that are reblooming; of course for summer blooms that last till winter - any panicle hydrangea will be beautiful; and evergreens like arborvitaes, Inkberry Gem Box, dwarf spruce and boxwoods…too many to look for so I definitely recommend reading the link above for some ideas then visit your nursery to find out if they have the plants you like in person before deciding. Hope that helps. 🙏💚🪴

3 ft tall and wide - Dwarf Boomerang Lilac (comes in pink, purple or dark purple) - they are hardy, has a beautiful scent, blooms twice in spring and late summer - stays within 3-4 ft tall and wide 💚🪴💚

@@TracysHomeGarden are the weigelas leggy? Or are they upright round shrubs?
@TracysHomeGarden3 жыл бұрын
The smaller variety like My Monet - stays within 2 ft and upright. The Sonic Bloom varieties are taller and the branches are a little weeping.

Try planting 4 O'clocks. Your Japanese Beetles will go for them because they are drawn by the fragrance. 4 O'clocks are an annual and toxic to the beetles.
@TracysHomeGarden3 жыл бұрын
I will find and plant them in containers to try it out. Thank you so much Karen! Last year I lost my 2nd flush of roses because of the beetles. 💚🙏🪴

@@TracysHomeGarden I think you will like them. They open in the evening, thus the name 4 O'clocks, and have a lovely fragrance.
