PanAmerica 2022, 10.000 km in 4 months without any issue. Road, Gravel, rain, Short day trips, 2 weeks tour with passenger and luggage. The PanAm is reliable i Love it! Have had many bikes during 40yrs of riding. BMWs, Harleys, Japanese, czech Oldtimers, etc.etc. Stay safe everybody out there! From Austria Europe

Like Mr. Leitner I too own a 2022 Pan America which I took delivery of on this past July 30 2022. 9000 trouble free miles and going strong. I love my Pan America. Sorry the other fellows had those problems. I disagree with the gentleman who maintains that PA will be a forgotten memory in a few years. The Rev Max engine is here to stay and will be in more newer Harley models. Yes there are some bugs that some have suffered but I think not so many to condemn this bike. Maybey I will be proven wrong. We shall see. I will report back here at 20,000 miles. So far all good.

30 years ago I used to ride a GS and drove Audis and BMWs when they weren't that common in the UK. However when every man and his dog seemed to have one I switched as I like to be just a little different. At 61 everyone in my age group seems to have a GS or if not a Tiger or a Harley. However much I've tried not to, the GS for me is the only one that ticks all the boxes. I've considered KTM, Ducati, Triumph etc but they only tick most of the boxes, so reluctantly I joined the herd! Had a GS 1250 now for 2 years and also just bought a F750 GS which I absolutely love and to be honest is the only bike you'll ever need. I don't get people turning their heads or coming over to me asking about the 1250 any more but I'm getting used to it!

I traded my Harley Davidson Pan America in also. Like you I lost a lot of money but was just done with the dependability of the PA. The only difference is I rode the BMW GSA and then the Triumph 1200 Rally Expedition and went with the triple. Both great bikes. Enjoy the new ride.

Beautiful bike! Also, nice production quality on the video. I just got a ‘23 GSA in Triple Black. I looked at the Pan America, but not too seriously. I’m sure they’re nice, but I’m not a Harley guy. When I sat on the BMW, I knew I had to have it. I think a pro/con video on the HD vs. the BMW might save some folks the time,money,and hassle that you went through. It’d be worth watching.

Also just traded my Pan Am for a 1250 GSA. I would have stuck with the Pan Am but it had some electrical issues 2 days before I was set to leave for a trip and the dealer couldn't figure it out in time. I had a few other issues before this and decided to cut my losses. I'm a big HD fan and really liked the Pan, but the GS is a better bike overall. I'm currently 1200 miles into my trip and very happy with the switch.

I bought a 2021 Pan Am last August, and I've been plagued with problems, electrical mostly, I also had the heat shield break off while riding and burned 3 pairs of pants because of that, fuel tank sensor broke, 2 battery replacements from the dealership and the starter clutch fix/update. Recently the ARH and electronic suspension has been inflating to max and not deflating. My bike has been in the shop for over 45 days on warranty replacement/fix issues since I bought it. The next time it has to go in I'm just going to call a lemon law attorney. I'm fed up. When it runs it's an amazing bike, but I don't feel like I can trust the damn thing.

@@RovingRobert This was my first electrical problem with the Pan Am, but I also had the heat shield fall off a few months back. Had I not had this trip coming up, I would have stuck with the Pan Am, but After putting 1900 miles over the last 5 days on the GSA, I can confidently say that it's a great bike. If you make the switch, I don't think you'll be disappointed. Ran the Tail of the Dragon today 3x and it was pretty damn good for a big bike. I hit the interstate for 7 hours to ride home tomorrow and this bike is so comfortable that I'm not dreading it. I'm happy with the GSA.

For somebody contemplating getting these, I’m encouraged the 2022’s seem to have a lot of the bugs quashed. My biggest hesitation with the GS is that at 5’8 with a 29” inseam, I doubt I’d be able to get both feet on the ground.

I’ve owned my GS 1250 Adventure for 8 months, putting 14k miles on it. I love it. It’s what I prefer to use everyday despite owning a 911 Targa 4S, an Audi S5, and a Jeep Gladiator. I’ve been riding since 1975, all brands and types…this is by far, the best.

The BMW r1250gs adventure is the best ADV bike on the market, it has been for 40yrs in my humble opinion. I did not even test drive any other bike. I went straight to my 2021 BMW r1250gs Adventure Rallye. Worth every penny and I just LOVE the shit as this bike. You made a great choice mate to trade up to the BMW. Thank You for a great video!! Considering HD came out with their first ADV bike and it’s completely new territory for the brand, I give them high marks for their first attempt in bringing something to the market that not only meets many of the standards people have of the large ADV class of bikes but brought their truly unique suspension squatting feature shaking the status quo up a bit. With the GS, you can easily see the years upon years of refinement BMW have put into this machine. There are very few quirks and gremlins present and everything seems to “just work” without much fanfare. I’m hoping to pick up an ADV bike to complement my middleweight naked as my dedicated touring bike in the next year or so and for me, the Tiger 1200 GT Pro and regular GS are my top choices atm. I do think the Harley is actually quite attractive and think it’s a very competitive option but I wouldn’t buy one, really only because it’s a general rule of mine not to buy a brand new model of car or bike until the second gen comes to market giving the manufacturer time to discover any issues that only come with mileage and mass production.

Most buy the Pan America because its HD. The Africa Twin and the BMW GS are better bikes. They both have fewer dealers than HD, but half the HD dealerships struggle to make repairs.

I am surprised that no one has mentioned the Yamaha Super Tenere. A proven bullet proof machine. Affordable alternative that has more than proven its metal in the past 12 years of production.

My first ADV bike and still own was the Tiger 900 GT Pro and fell in love with that T-Plane crank and was ready to step up to a shaft drive as I put a lot of miles on in a year (~18k miles) and was tired of chain maintenance. Really wanted the new Tiger 1200 Rally Explorer but ultimately went with the R1250 GSA and don't regret it. It came down to the dealer network. Nearest Triumph dealer is 200 miles away and the BMW dealer is 70 miles and the BMW dealer is a great dealership (Ozzie's in Chico, CA). I thought I would hate the boxer sound from videos I watched on KZbin but after throwing an Arrow slip on and woke the sound up I have grown to love the exhaust note lol. Highly recommend the GSA, I bought it new 4 months ago and have 6700 miles on it and zero issues. I hope that Triumph will do what MV Agusta just did with KTM here in the states and partner with a brand that has a larger dealer network because in my opinion Triumph is killing it lately with their bike lineup and the lack of dealers on the West Coast of the US outside of big cities is a major letdown.

Have a 2017 GSA 1200cc triple black in the UK 🇬🇧......28k miles and and 5 years later with trips to Spain/Portugal/France/Germany....no issues! ...It sounds agricultural but it's built like a tank !.. Comfortable and fast enough..... Fully water cooled GS1300 appearing next year 🤞.

Just picked up my 2022 GSA Anniversary edition last Sunday and so far, I love it! (BTW: looks like you're in the Lake Mohawk area? - I'm in Hamburg) I've also got two HD Road Glides and I plan to keep the newer one, but man, what a difference riding the GSA. It's so smooth, light, agile, etc. I think I'm going to really enjoy it. Good luck with yours!

I was between the Ducati and the 1250GS. I tried the 1250GSA and immediately bit. I got in December. Aaahh I never thought I'd ENJOY a bike SO MUCH, plus I have it with a 7-year warranty

I orderd my Pan Am end 2020. And it did not arrive for the next 6 months. So I cancelled my order and ran to BMW Motorrad. Two weeks later in April 2021 I had my new GS Adventure in my garden. Best buy ever, what a machine.

"This bike is perfectly engineered." Well, yeah, it's a BMW. It better be. The point about the loose wires and exposed components really got me. I even went outside and looked at my R1200GS with that in mind and he's right. There's a place for everything and everything is in it's place. There's no loose, dangling parts to catch on branches or anything. It's all tucked in there, nice and tight. The HD will get better over time. The Pan America is really a new concept for HD and they'll refine it, as BMW has done for the past 40 years with the GS. Problem is, I can get a nicely equipped GS for about the same as a Pan America, so why would I go with what is essentially a prototype model? HD should consider pricing the PA a bit lower and accepting the smaller profit margin if only to get more people on those bikes. For me, HD is still trying to cash in on the name in a well-saturated market.

I honestly disagree that Harley will put much more serious effort into the PA. I think they will run it out there for 5 more years and then ditch it when no one buys it anymore because it’s completely unreliable. They just don’t have a history of fixing their mistakes or even giving a crap about anything except profits. I hope I’m wrong but I just have 0 faith in the current leadership at Harley Davidson.

@@robbyclark6915 you're not wrong to be skeptical but to be fair, the Pan Am has strong sales and it's been positively reviewed by a lot of independents, not just the big publications. HD itself makes a bold claim it was the #1 ADV bike sold in America. That last claim is dubious but my point is HD seems to be all in on this bike, and it isn't a bad product overall. Couple that with HD's claim of a "Hardwire" reboot of their entire business model, and it seems this is the direction they want to head. Cutting their prospective cash cow early doesn't seem like a good strategy, even for HD, who has a record of making pretty poor choices.

Another vlogger with a GS. Truly I am happy that you have money to burn and that you are not that bothered about a financial hit like that. Maybe if you had done your research properly in the first place, you would have ignored the first generation of the Pan American and waited for the second generation to arrive. I suppose now you are going to produce a load of vids showing you riding down a dusty trail and how well the GS copes with the dust etc etc, followed by all the extras you will put on the bike. Frank, a little hard on this guy. Give him credit for trying a PA. If people have the money I say great for you and as for his videos you really don’t need to watch. I have friends with a PA and it’s a headache with the electrical/lowering system and motor heat. I would not buy a PA just biased on the above3 things.

Watched your previous PA. Negatives videos …agree with most comments on the larger engine output bikes heat issues , KTM, Harley, Ducati…crazy not better with real riding issues…have the right leg burn scars are there to prove it. Saw some of the fixes out there, done some of those with other bikes, but at the price point think it is crazy why consumers should do it! Have had Harley’s, Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha, but went with a GSA Premium three years ago, and no regrets. I live in the Southern US, so yes deal with hot humid weather…the BMW is the first bike that does not cook me. Ride it off road and on. Is it the fastest, no, but I can with the 911 programmer, can do my own service, 90 percentage of services I can perform, try that with others. The exhaust- all the municipalities enforcing noise ordinances…and yes all my other bikes changed up the exhaust. Maybe getting older softened that desire ;) Good luck, the reliability if maintenance is kept up, is the best of any bike have owned…great choice - personally think you will love the ride, stay safe, stay well! I love these reviews. What you and others say about the comfort is key to me. I want a comfy cruiser that can also go off-road when I want to go for a short adventure. Won’t be doing that much though. Mostly gravel roads and two track every now and then. Probably nothing a Subaru couldn’t get through. I want to be able to put miles on it though.

I don't have a GS, but I do have an R1250RS and test rode the Pan America. The difference in quality was stark and it wasn't just loose wires on the HD. Lots of pieces, like the windscreen mount, felt flimsy. Even the quality of the fasteners. On the BMW, it's all stainless steel torx fittings, HD not so much. I also owned a Triumph Tiger 1200 (previous gen) and it wasn't quite up to the BMW build quality, but close and far better than the Pan America.

I don't think anyone would argue the quality of BMW, and after watching your video on the gripes about your PAS, I agree and sympathize with your observations. I have a 2021 PAS, and I have had my problems which resulted in a new engine, there have been a few other irritations. Maybe it would have been wise to wait for a few iterations, but I'd been wanting to get out of my H-D Ultra Limited and onto an Adv for a few years, and if you've owned a H-D before, you'll know they can come up with VERY compelling deals when trading up 😊 Anyway that brings me to why I'm responding, of course if I paid cash for my motorcycles and cars then then the cost of trading would be lessened, but add financing and it's real easy to get upside down on a deal. I did get an excellent tradin on my Ultra which I know I couldn't get at KTM, BMW, Ducati or Triumph which was a big decider in my getting the PAS. Knowing there are ppl riding Pan America's around the world gives me confidence that H-D will or has already worked out the mechanics issues or build inconsistencies. I don't like that there are pipes and wires all over the bike, H-D do need to clean the PAS up and address some of the tacky design aspects, especially if they are really serious about this market. Not addressing these items is a sure way for the PAS to become another V-Rod. For the time being, if I have no more issues, then I'll keep mine; it is an amazing machine, and I have a smile on my face whenever riding it, there's all the power and handling I need to ride with my friends on the other brands I mentioned above. Enjoy your BMW buddy, there really isn't a right or wrong choice.

The Pan america is mor fun to ride, such a brillant engine but since a few months my clutch is too hard and this is not hydraulic like on the GS. I hope Harley could fix it and add a quickshifter on my bike or i will look again on BMW GS 1250 or Africa twin !

Never trade in a vehicle to a dealer. Ever. Never buy motorcycles new. Ever. Out there, is someone what will buy your vehicle for much more than a dealer is capable of paying. Out there, is an owner of a motorcycle that bought exactly what you are looking for, that they thought was exactly what were looking for, but for whatever reason, turned out to be not what they really wanted. Unless you're loaded with money and don't care about throwing away thousands of dollars for the sake of convenience. A quick search just turned up hundreds of late-model BMW GSA's with just a few thousand miles. Oh, and have fun cracking open the final drive to lubricate the drive shaft splines in the middle of nowhere in the dirt, mud and dust.

and all those used bikes are listed for close to the price of a new bike. i am looking for used bikes and everyone is within a $1200 of a new, same model bike or its across the country and i'd have to pay shipping. now i am back to looking for new in my area that i can ride home. the used market is flooded because people want too much money for a used bike, even ones that are 4 and 5 years old are priced high. they can keep it.

I almost bought a PAS last fall but the dealer could not get me what I wanted, a gray special with auto ride height adjustment. They also promised me one on the phone then sold it out from u set me 30 minutes later as I was on my way to pick it up. I went with a new GSA and so glad that I did!

That is a case of a bad dealership not so much the product. However if that was your neighborhood dealer its understandable that you chose another brand of bike. Where I am my local HD dealer is new tech savy and their techs are also and enthusiastic toward it. My tech owns and rides a Pan Am. This is very important I believe no matter what brand motorcycle you choose. A dealer that doesnt make taking care of their customers wants and concerns is a dealer to be avoided. Just because you purchased a bike from a poor dealership doesnt mean that you cannot take it to a better one for service etc. I have an HD dealer much closer than the one I do business with because that dealer is known for lousy service whereas the one further away is noted for excellent service. G'day from Australia mate. This beautiful bike may well be my "retirement" bike! I have been retired medically from the work force (former soldier), and my dilemma is which bloody bike to choose!! Currently have a Yamaha fjr1300, and it's a terrific bike which I will keep. Have test ridden both GS and GSA. Would prefer the bike to have 19 inch F/wheel over the 21' of say the Africa Twin. Due to my injury, the great dirt roads/tracks we have here are no longer an option I have which really sucks! Hard packed dirt roads would be ok when dry. Mud and crap is out, definitely! So as you can tell I am pretty well road biased now. BMW 1250 GS, or possibly the new 1300 GS that I believe will be released in 2023. The KTM 1290 Super Adventure 'S model is another one that kinda fits the bill. Do you see where this is going brother? Way too many choices these days, but I can only pick one! I'm 64yrs old, riding since I was 13, and I have never been without a motorcycle for the last 50 odd years. My choice must be made wisely, with practicality in mind, and definitely comfort for my lower back area. Guess I will just toss a coin and see I do buy! Really like the scenery in your area brother as It reminds me of when I lived in England. Appreciate the video, and I will certainly be following your exploits with the GS. Go with the GS or GSA. Comfort and reliability are top notch. My riding partner just bought a new KTM 890 and he’s already having electrical issues. I’m a GSA owner and the size vs. GS is a non-issue; fuel range is a game changer.

The lack of symmetry in the engine bay is also something I don't appreciate on the Pan America. It's not a huge issue, but it's still "not noth'n". 8 months on, any regrets on moving to the GS platform given the financials involved?

Absolutely no regrets. GS is better for my riding style. I like tons of torque in GS engine.

Consider used then. Look for something with a good amount of miles, with one owner. Inspect the maintenance records and ask where it was serviced. You can ask, at the dealership to review those records. I got a very good deal on an 09 R1200GS that was one owner, immaculately maintained, with about 50k miles. The guy who owned it, loved it, used it, and kept up with the maintenance. He was probably looking for some more features available in a new bike. I love my 09 and it runs great.

Pan American is just as quite...true it is not as refined as the BMW is but it's still in class area of the BMW..and it's to me just as good looking as the BMW

Huge mistake choosing the Pan American over the GS/GSA. Their value has plummeted here in Australia with lots of dealer demo bikes for sale. In a few years it will be looked on as an oddity. Just like their electric bike.

I agree completely. Harley history shows that to be the most likely scenario. Build a bike, bike doesn’t work right, sell bike anyway, make 0 improvements because that would cost money, ditch bike after 5 years and move on.

@@robbyclark6915 That scenario won’t happen with the PA. HD has staked their future on the PA and Revolution engine. Sales of traditional models are declining due to traditional demographic aging out. PA was best selling ADV in 2022. They will refine the imperfections out of it.

I sold my GSA and purchased the PAS because I love HD brand and want to experience. Dont get me wrong, GSA is a good bike IMHO but in your case, simply the BMW dealer just wanted to turn down the value of PAS, lost 10K is too much for a new bike. But if you are happy, is the most important, have fun with a new toy.

I have gloves :-) Put it in the bag only during filming, as its only way to comfortable trart/stop recording. Aspecialy when filming with drone alone. I use Mavic Air 2S

The Africa Twin is a better off road bike than the GSA but the BMW is much better on road or for touring. I rode the Pan Am, AT, Tiger and KTM 1290. The one in my garage is a 22 1250 ADV. So nice to have so many capable bikes to choose from!

I wouldn't buy a HD for on road or off road. The GS is a much better bike but personally I found it a bit heavy so I got a Tiger which ticks all the boxes for myself

I am a little confused... You say that the differences between the H/D and GSA is obvious, then WHY did you buy the H/D in the first place? The GSA has a better engine including better reliability, smother power, better torque, better fuel economy, lower centre of gravity etc. etc. The GSA has better suspension both front and rear with auto height levelling and contantly monitors mthe road surface etc. The GSA has far superior brakes being BREMBO with ABS, cornering ABS and triple axis traction control. The GSA can carry more weight including luggage. The GSA can be serviced at many more places all over the world. The GSA has a more comfortable seating position for both rider and pillion. The GSA has a larger fuel capacity thus a MASSIVE difference in cruising range with its better fuel usage. The GSA has a much more intuitive menu system for the dash and is clearer to read including TPS. It appears that you just believed the American sales staff when they told you that the Pan America was a great bike, Im not saying its a bad bike but it is not in the same leauge as the BMW. It seems very obvious that you had done ZERO research before your outlay of your hard earned $$$ Looks like a very nice suburb you live in. I'm a little jealous Before you ask me... Yes! I do own a GS BMW but its a 2017 R1200GS Rallye. I spent well over 300 hours on research before I bought mine after considering the GSA, Ducati 1200 & 950 Multistrada's, KTM 790, 1090 & 1290, Triumph's 1200 Explorer Pro & Suzuki's 1200 Bandit S etc etc I also had a BMW 650 Sertao but mine was a 2007. For Gods sake 2Dogs this is Harleys very first model in this type of motorcycling only in its second production year. Beemer invented it what 40 years ago. Give them a bit of credit and time to refine this the 1st edition. 2022 PAS owner with 9000 trouble free miles and tons of fun. I love it. And no I am not a Harley only guy. 49 bikes and counting of all major manufacturers.

You just lost alot of money and lost a fine ride then went out and bought probably one the worst junk bikes on the market . Put 50000 miles on that pretty package on junk and see what it takes to get another 50000. Put 50000 on the Pan American and sell it for your $15000 or just keep riding it . But you'd never know that , obviously.
