I've done some research on the amount of materials other factions will trade. In FOTS, at least, the amount a trade partner buys from you is based on the number of provinces they have: the more provinces they have, the more they buy, but this diminishes with the more provinces they have. Factions with one province will buy 3 bales/stacks/etc. of one trade good; two province factions will buy 5. They will also buy this amount for each resource you have, meaning that a one province faction will still buy 3 silk, 3 incense, 3 horses, etc. This means that it is better to have a wide variety of trade goods than to have a ton of trade ships focus on one good; also, it is better theoretically to trade with a bunch of small factions than just one large one (though trading with one large friendly faction is undoubtedly less prone to change than a bunch of small factions that might declare war at any moment). The foreign powers (US, UK, France) buy 9 of everything you make. Again all of this is for FOTS and not Shogun 2 itself, so I'm not 100% sure it applies to Shogun 2, but it probably does given how similar the two are mechanically.

Sorry but I need to put 2 things that you were doing wrong in your games... 1- Nanban Trade ship IS a trade ship, you are playing with the otomo, all your nodes should have 1 nanban trade ship and 9 normal trade ships (red seal trade ships in the end of the game). 2- All trade nodes must have 10 trade ships, even with decreasing returns with each one you put there, even the last one (the 10th), you still does more money them the upkeep of the ship (100 koku). This is from UNSOLD resources! Even better if you can trade them, but in most games, after Realm Divided, you can't trade them but you still profit from them. Always try to rush trade nodes with any ship you have, occupy them with 1 bow ship until you can build trade ships, the AI will normally not declare war for trade nodes, so always try to rush them with anything you have and just 1 ship in each. PS: for defending them, if you don't have nanban trade ships, just place 2 medium bunes or 2 sengoku (the boarding one) near your ships, so the auto-resolve will give you victory. 10 Red seal ships are enough to defend themselves.

I' m doing a domination campaign as Tanegashima (XL Modded Map) and noticed a nice interaction. When I was simply focusing on Kyushu, my Resources Value capped at normal values. But then...i decided to send a ship to unlock all clans on the map...and the chaos started. My Resources values are increasing each turn, snowballing without even the use of a single Trade Route. I think the increase in price is directly influenced by the number of provinces...a bit OP hidden mechanic i think.

I activated a 25% event bonus to income from trade tariffs but it decreased my income per turn. I'm pretty sure the tariffs are glitched somehow.

For the "other" option in you finance, how do you increase it, as mine is stuck on 1200 koku I am not sure I fully understand what "other" is

No, you can only set the tax level globally, but you can exempt individual provinces from taxes.

I don't really remember how and why. But if you can't trade because of the port limit, you should build more trading ports. That is one big limiting factor. As for AI clans willingness to trade with you, having access to the warhorse resource is a big incentive for the AI to trade with you.
