Also, consider doing the transfer case fluid. It only holds about half a quart so any leak can make it run dangerously low. A symptom of low or old fluid is chattering of the transfer case during tight u-turns. An Xhp along w/ Xdelete transmission tune is popular

Welcome to the n54 life bro. Just picked up my e60 n54 for 1600. Did the same, valve cover gaskets, spark plugs, OFHG, trans valve body sleeves no trans pan. Previous owner did a lot of work also, cooling system, ac, steering rack, newer index 12 injectors. This is the best way to get into the n54

Bro congrats! These are awesome and have a good powerplant especially going single turbo on an e30/e50 mix! Anyways, about the headunit, you can retrofit for newer versions with wireless carplay/apple play etc etc and even have the maintenance tabs and even the sport displays which is pretty cool! Excited for this build already especially because i'm pretty biased to bmw's 😂 their expensive to maintain but those who talk shit about it dont have the $$ to keep up with it then it breaks and the rest is history...

Be looking forward to your wastegate rattle diagnosis and repair. I have a 535xi with the N54 and I get rattle on cold starts for about 15-20 seconds and the it quiets down.

If you can get your fingers on the wastegate rod, with cold engine, then try wiggling and seeing if it clanks. If so, get a long tension spring from Home Depot then cut it to length and attach it to something nearby. Basically, this takes the looseness out and stops the rattle until you can get the manifold off and welded. I had this issue on my F30.

Love this man I know people talk crap about BMW and the maintenance but if you're on top of it and actually doing it yourself, you'd understand the hype behind BMW the comfort how clean the shifting is how intuitive the car is, these little things that a 15-20 year old has that new cars are barely getting. Nice Car end Video the Tires are from 2012 and look like they are dryrottet. The coupling from the front suspension to the stabilizer you showed is also bad exessive play. In Germany the car would fail inspektion. also the car came with 306hp from factory

That’s the issues w the n20 motors. Mine has about 110k and they mostly fixed the issues but the 2011-2014 years were rough for those motors. Leaks, brake failure, timing chains etc lmao

Consider the $300 LSD conversion kit for street hooning. Or a proper LSD. The ring-gear on automatic 335i’s are not welded on like the manual ones. Better traction and small drifts to be had with an LSD

Good luck finding a mint M3. These cars are getting harder and harder to find in good condition the more time flies by. I regret selling my BMW E46, and now everyone I look online to buy is in terrible condition compared to what I had, I just didn't realize it until much later. I get the payments were killing you but sometimes the sacrifice pays off.

If its mhd then yes close to 400hp on the n54 if it has the supporting mods and maintenance properly done.. i have the stage2+ on my f30 n55 and its amazing, its what should have come from factory

I think the issue was the automated steering dinging to keep his hand on the wheel. It can be tricky for newcomers to figure out what computer is asking for in terms of hand pressure on the steering wheel

Good thing about 335i’s (N54) with this mileage in decent condition is that lots of the issues have already been addressed. I’ve grown to love e90’s. I’ve had a cappuccino, R32 GTR, exige, 2002tii, etc but my fav overall is my e90 manual 330i. Oil pan gasket is tedious but not too bad. Can always add 2 cans of Liqui Moly Oil Saver to buy some extra time before tackling this. BMW now makes their rubber seals from polyacrylate so it should be more heat resistant.

Stay away from German made cars bro. Yeah BMW’s have looks and speed (if built right). But as far as reliability and light maintenance it lacks that. BMW’s are high maintenance and don’t last long at all. Japanese cars are where it’s at. Scion, Lexus, Acura, Honda, Toyota, or Mazda.

​@@LifeofBrinc most Lexus will outlast any German car. Especially BMW. The 4.0, 4 3, 4.7 v8 Lexus engines are all capable of over 500k miles, and so are the older ones. My 2JZ IS300 Sportcross will last at least 300 to 500k miles.

Fyi, many BMW’s will go 400k miles with mostly light maintenance. At least the majority of NA inline-6 engines. Even clutches can often last 200k It’s usually the mechanical engineering functionality that makes German cars popular. Also, almost all BMW’s are 50/50 weight distribution. 50/50 + RWD + inline6 = fun. Think Supras I’ve had bmw’s from almost all generations. My F30 got almost 40mpg hwy and all 4 of our BMW’s are on original water pumps + thermostats with over 170k miles. Coil packs lasted 150k+ on each, etc.

I’ll give them credit in the styling compartment and their tech. But mechanically compared to a Japanese vehicle. Japanese made vehicles win all day, especially for mileage life, maintenance cost, and parts cost. Not to mention they are just as modifiable as a BMW car or any other German car. Any car is modifiable technically. But Japanese motors are way better than any out there honestly. Not even American made cars are quality cars. They all suck. But as he did, I would have to choose a BMW over a Ford. There’s no way I’ll drive another Ford after my 15 Fusion SE was so problematic
