Appreciate the interview with Brian. Seems that his contrarian mean-reversion approach could be used for hedging longer term momentum/trend trades. So I could hold a highly rated stock long and trade the pullbacks using puts or collars for mean reversion.
@TraderLion2 ай бұрын
Brian has specific criteria for the stocks he trades, it's not just any gap up
@BrianLeeTrades2 ай бұрын
I would imagine having 1 mean reversion system can be really effective for when the markets crash and you're looking to manage the risk for a correction versus catching a falling knife. Key characteristics for me is looking for the presence of a buyer and only putting on a small position, I wouldn't buy into weakness but rather into strength with a defined risk level against the swing low.
@Fakefake8802 ай бұрын
Quite abstract without examples so here’s Some critical info and context for this interview to make sense - Brian shorts volatile small caps - risk to his strategy is much higher because risk of halts and slippage are way way higher than for long momentum traders in growth names - the risk is further heighten by the large size he takes. He said his max loss is 4R. Why not 1R? Because his strat is way riskier and outliers are way more common vs swinging growth - the magnitude of his drawdowns and blowups are at least double what you’re imagining - this is why he emphasises wiring out. Swing long traders aren’t exposed to equivalent heighten risks - his system and backtesting is not strictly data driven. It’s manual and sample size is small A few things that stuck out to me an hour in
@JBearTrades2 ай бұрын
Terrible interpretation.
@Fakefake8802 ай бұрын
@@JBearTrades why
@JBearTrades2 ай бұрын
@@Fakefake880 because very little of what his interpretation says is correct. Honestly most of it’s completely wrong. A real summary would be: He uses a Risk Reward system which means win % matters very little to him. He is a extremely systematic trader that has built and developed processes to fit his edge and better define it making it exponentially easier to execute when a trade appears
@Fakefake8802 ай бұрын
@@JBearTrades thats a good summary. i think what OP is talking about is the specific difference between strategies comparing Smallcap daytrade shorting (brians style) vs swing/position trading established mid/large cap growth (traderlions primary audience) ? and the risks associated, primarily worst case if stop is hit

Richard not handling Brian's computational details well. not holding up to the quality that an interview with Brian's competence should expect from this audience member's time. a few opportunities to run with Brian's approach & stretch the learning time with that moment (@43:00). Brian's full position sizing & entry timing as a partnership needed an exponential discourse. remember --- Brian is working his expertise on that backside (!!) of the front end largeness. this is some incredible finessing with entry & accumulating proportional size at same time.

Trusting them to do what? US stocks are not like the wild west of forex. Any platform offered/supported by any US broker is extremely fine.
