Hello Everyone,
Ollie here and back with another StarCraft 2 1v1. This time Terran vs Protoss.
Another game of Silver League!
A Stressfull game where I ended up getting a GG through a combination of growth and poor trades.

Love the videos. Very fun to watch. I think you have a solid build order, macro, and micro for where you are at. Some polish suggestions from a fellow humble rookie: -I would love to see you push back your Engineering Bay a bit in your order and instead build barracks 2 and 3 at the same time. Put tech labs on them and get stim and shields together. I think that would really increase the power of your drops and early pushes. What you lose in base defense you gain in marine strength. If racks 2 and 3 are followed by E Bay, +1 attack, and concussive, you are then really well set also for a bigger push in the 7-10 min window. As long as you are playing bio, these are the critical upgrades to get as soon as reasonable in your build. -I agree scouting would be helpful, but don't get too concerned about reacting to everything you see. Try to have just 1 or 2 small changes to your gameplan based on scouting, Things like -They are on 1 base, need to build a bunker or 2 asap. -They are going mass air, then more marines less marauders, turrets in mineral lines first and more later, and eventual 2nd starport to pump out vikings as needed. (Don't need a complete swap to mech/cyclones/mines, unless that's something you are very comfortable with) -All advice in this game is relative (including mine). Example: Scans are expensive and bad; mules good. At 3 minutes, that's usually true. All full 3 base economy and attacking, that's absolutely false. Early minutes are critical economy building, but there's nothing wrong with a needed scan to check on your opponent later in the game. Same is true with Turrets and static defense. Dropping them when you are tight on minerals and in full SCV production mode is a big trade off and should only be done if needed as a counter. Later in the game, though, like when you saw voidrays, that was a great time to spam 5-10 turrets in your main base and secure your production against his main force. Static defense is typically cheap for its effectiveness as you give up the mobility of army. -Early shenanigans usually leads to more shenanigans. If I see a cannon rush or other cheeky play, I immediately think about hidden bases, carrier rushes, DTs, or some other "cheese" strategy.

Totally, I agree on all parts One thing I’ve been trying anyway is getting my tech up and producing more marines early I figured early game marines will always be useful

Gg. 2 things-> earlier reaper scout & sacrifice would tell you about the proxy pylon, would of saved losing marines, and no need for the turret. So a reaper first would of been good. The drop worked well, so dont slow down, go for a 2nd and 3rd drop 👍

Nice win :) I wouldn't even say you traded poorly this game at all. You just threw away that first attack and then traded very well. I liked your thought process of thinking he had wasted resources so you could attack him. However you didn't actually consider his economy in that logic. You spent like 600 to 800 resources on a second base whereas he was on one base. So of course he had way more army and crushed you on the way over. So first step is knowing that he is on one base. The second step is waiting a bit longer for your 2nd base income to pay off and then crush him with superior army supply. When it comes to your macro, we really can't get supply blocked on the second depot. There is no excuse for that. This is at a critical point in the game where we are trying to build up our worker count and having a full supply block sets us very far behind. Besides that the extra barracks should come in about 4-5 minutes earlier than they did. Struggling for gas to build important units is no excuse to bank up minerals. Its the difference of having 20 extra marines or not having them. Don't let that discourage you though, the macro was clearly good enough to get you the win :D But the bigger reason you got the W here was your opponent chosing a terrible map to do a one base attack. Because he simply can't deny your second base. That and you trading extremely well on his first push at 8:00. Really nice micro there.

Agreed on all points, especially the early supply blocks - looks like 3-4 games in a row where this has occurred. Your build is generally pretty solid and you're executing it consistently, just make sure that second depot is as automatic as the rest of the early build. Nice job on the drop and on most of the micro and decision making in the fights! On his first push, when you see him coming toward you with an army and you've got a few tanks already in position and ready to defend, there's no need to push out to go take the fight on his terms, just let him get blasted by your defenses, then you can decide to chase if he falls back. Last point, it gets mentioned after every video, but you MUST build more barracks earlier than you currently are. You have 1600-2000 minerals by 7:00-8:00, and can't spend them. Even after the cost of the barracks, that's about THIRTY extra marines you could have in your army. You should be building these barracks while getting your natural saturated. Still, a solid and convincing win - well done!

I see you're starting to play a little bit with your build order: I would like to see you clean it up with a second supply depot much earlier to get ahead of the supply block. Well... About queueing up SCVs... The goal is not to, but I'm not going to give you a hard time about it. Not yet.

Blah blah macro macro. Main thing this game is to notice how your opponent got mulched in that last fight. Protoss without splash will get eaten by bio with medivacs. Don't forget to use your stim too. It'll help you win harder. Other thing to notice is the drop. The battery is a really strong Protoss defense. With overcharge, it can help a Protoss hold early Terran timing attacks. This is why, it's often a good idea to jump the battery. OFC if you have the DPS you can fight it out or if the Protoss is already there, retreat. Good job taking out the probes on the drop too. A thing to note there is that if you pack marauders in a drop, you can actually burst down pylons pretty quickly so that's an option if the opponent is using an artosis pylon (1 pylon for a lot of important buildings). You can also burst down important splash unit buildings if you see them. Robo bay and templar archives here. Just make that decision quick. They do take a while to burst down.

thanks proape. good stuff. I felt like my macro was alright this game. it wasnt perfect, but it felt fluid with little down time, so i'm okay with that.
