I've been watching several animation tutorials, and it seems the way you're doing it isn't the way professionals are teaching it. What I've seen them do is start off with opening and closing positions; then they draw the position that goes in between the first and last frame; then they draw a position that goes in between the first and middle, and middle and last (1/4, 3/4). Depending on how fast they want the animation, they'll just keep "halving" it by drawing more frames in between the positions that they have. This seems to make sense if you're trying to control the motion more (ex. start off fast, but then slows down) I do appreciate how quick this tutorial is.

I’m pretty sure what you’re talking about is pose to pose and straight ahead animating. Pose to pose is usually used in most things like walking. But straight ahead animating is used on stuff like fire where you can’t like predict how it moves and you can’t tween it, so you do one frame after another.
@garbageman44125 жыл бұрын
Also this is one month late.

Yeah, it depends how much dialogue is in that scene. Like, in a scenario like this they'll still do that but usually there is more freedom to time what's in between. With heavy dialogue scene, they have to do that and then draw every mouth position, time it in the animatic, and slowly narrow it down by eliminating more and more of the frames in between.

This was pretty helpful. From the get go I knew that traditional style animation was the way to go for me as the thing I'll be makimg hopefully soon would be perfect for this style. So thank you very much for this little tutorial, I'm sure there's alot more to it than just adding layers on top of each other but for now it'll do for a little test run. Cheers!

Thanks for this video. I used to animate only on paper, then did some ToonBoom before retiring. I have a tip for you, thought, if you are going to animate without a peg bar. You can draw 3 X's on a piece of paper that you tape under the drawn layer. In other words, if your drawings are taped on top, your paper with the X's should be taped at the bottom. Let's call it your registration drawing. Then, you insert your registration drawing under each animation drawing and from it you trace the X's. When you scan, you will have registration marks on all drawings. You can erase those in your software and your drawings will all be registered. This is hard to explain without visuals, perhaps I will just soot a tutorial.

Most traditional animation uses key scenes and in-betweening instead of the straight ahead style you're using. That is unless it's a scene of something like fire or a flurry where key scenes would have no clear path between them and need to flow together randomally.

what machine did you use to scan the papers, and is i expensive? Does the Photoshop app and such cost money?
@IsllayGirls6 жыл бұрын
A simple printer, which includes a scanner (you just need a scanner, but a device that only has a scanner is usually more expensive) costs about 80 dollars, and is good enough for the job. Photoshop costs money but there are other programs you can use, like GIMP or other free alternatives.
