For some reason when I try to draw traditionally I always get that feeling that you can never get from drawing digitally, the satisfaction that you get from the pencil hitting the paper, the sound and texture that you feel when drawing, the pressure that you can't have many mistakes in paper, and most importantly the overall feeling of drawing traditionally. It just all feels so natural per se. So personally I prefer traditional drawing, no matter how inconvenient it may become in the future.

The entertainment industry have been dominated by digital art for several years now. Traditional is and will continue to dominate the fine art industry. People enjoy entertainment digitally but they want physical paintings to hang on their walls, statues in their gardens etc. There will also always be that element of awe people feel for traditional art aswell. Both digital and traditional require the same skills and discipline so at the end of the day digital is just a medium like oil paint or marble.

EXACTLY. In the entertainment field, it's just a bit cheaper to go about with it is why a lot of them are going towards the CG route and the likes. While traditional is still admired, still bought, still being displayed and even for animation books and even cartoon collectors. It's all art it's all different mediums, it's not something that's replaceable making the other obsolete. I used to hate the idea of digital art and the way it's going in the industry. My mind completely changed once I got to use tablet PCs and now the iPad pros. I wanted to save space so went digital and now love it. Still have my sketchbooks, still doodle on scrap paper, so both are not going to be a dying form.

Depends on your creative budget, Digital requirements Computer, phone, Tablets, digital pen, software, storage I know digital art products are more affordable now but that still can cost. Every medium/tool has its limitations and time of popularity being trendy until the next technology. 3D Virtual drawing is possibly the next evolution but that doesn’t mean 2D illustration will disappear. People are always claiming tools as dying out until they become popular again.

I will always enjoy traditional just because of the physical aspect of it. Its not code translated to a display. Its real and its there. And it being real makes drawing more comfortable too. The best way i can describe drawing on a digital screenpad is trying to make lines in the snow with a stick vs trying to make lines on ice with a larger pole. Its just not a good fit for me but i still have to do it or else i probably wont succeed in the next few years.

I bought a pen tablet this week and finally started drawing digitally. Even though I prefer the "feel" of drawing traditionally but not having to ever think about running out of ink or paints is a huge plus point in my opinion. Also the fact that you can zoom in to your drawing to accurately draw the smallest of details and the transform tool that helps you adjust any part of your drawing without having to erase and redraw over and over is also very helpful.

It may cost more but it's much better than just traditional art. for digital art you can have every color accessible to you and you don't have to pay more money to get them whilst on traditional, you have to pay more and to get good colors like Copic markers etc. on digital art you can save it easy to your drive whilst on traditional, paper can tear, smudge, get wet etc. This is why traditional art is dying.

Digital art is definitely the future of mainstream art, in fact is already IS the mainstream, but personally I find traditional art to always be more impressive and enjoyable to look at than digital. There's something about about seeing the artist's individual strokes, seeing the techniques they used laid out on the canvas rather than the perfection of digital art. One tip that idk if works for everyone is that, when I got into digital art, even tho It was really hard and struggled a lot doing the transition for like a 1-2 months, I improved a lot thanks to digital and the tools u have. - doing better studies of art;having brushes and a insane amount of colours and being able to over all compare yourself to the pros with the same conditions, I really encourage to get into digital, it helped me a lot to grow as an artist.

I'd actually argue that using less colors is actually better for learning color theory and getting better at color. My digital coloring got better once after I really got into watercolor limiting myself to at most 24 colors and just color mixing.

@@izumichan31 nice to hear your point of view, I guess that the difference is that I was never able to get so much into colour as in digital because i had a really limited and bad quality colours for traditional, wich was a huge change in digital

I have an idea for you. My hands have a low-level shake to them which made keeping track of what my hands were doing while looking at the monitor impossible. I got a piece of advice on the internet that said to put a piece of paper over your tablet, and I got astronomically better. Not kidding. Tried it this afternoon and I already see a huge difference. I function a little bit better on tablets with screens. If you are having this problem with a tablet with a screen, see if your tablet brand offers different nibs and try them out. Finally, I would suggest that you look at your tablet settings. I would be drawing circles on the tablet and getting ovals, because my screen was not the same shape as my tablet. A little bit of fiddling around with my settings actually fixed that. I understand if you're burned out and you don't want to try again, the info is here.

Traditional art is cheaper but if you paint with oil paints, the costs will pile on. Digital art has a higher start up but it's one and done unless you get monthly software like Photoshop (that's why I use Clip Studio). I won't lie to you, having that physical art is awesome... drawing tablets is a huge turn off because even if you are pro with traditional art, you still need the knowledge and the will to use it (it's really weird to someone that uses pencil and paper).

I bought the 2020 ipad pro 11 inch model Cause I wanted to learn how to color and knowing how limited I am in traditional art in coloring since colors were only somewhat plentiful, and because I knew that digital art would be easier and that more people will be using it in the future. So then I bought it, and right now its... holding up pretty well! I use it almost every single day for drawing, It is definitely worth the money you lose atleast for me.

I bought a drawing pad like 2 months ago and haven't touched it yet. I haven't sketched in my sketchpad for almost 3 years because of university and getting hooked on "hustle culture" after college. The pandemic actually helped me stopped everything and draw again (pretty emotional actually). I guess I haven't brought myself to go digital because I was on such a long hiatus. I think digital art is beautiful, but going outside and sketching is just something else for me. I wouldn't want traditional art to die lol. Procreate is really good though, I agree.

I've tried several times to do digital art but I just can't get used to it. I did get the hang of it for a short while but I didn't really enjoy it the same. If anything it stressed me out. I couldn't just colour something in I had to use layers and what not. It got too tech orientated. I've since develop3d a style of sketching cartoons with pencils and biros, with hatching and cross hatching to shade them. I don't use colour anymore either, at least not often. I've never been happier than I have using just a pencil and a sketchbook or card stock. If love to be able to create more digital based products but I can't get used to that slippery pen on a screen feeling. I find I spend more time pressing undo that I do just sketching.

Unless I trace over my traditional art but it still makes a difference based on the control I have over my 'tool'

Every day a lot of comics, strip comics and graphics novels are publish around the world and a lot of them are a mix of both traditional(for the ink usually) and digital. A lot of professional don't like having their entire process on digital. So yes digitally it's faster and a wonderful tool but professional artist continue to do what they love (if not just leave this business) and if they prefer having a traditional work they are often some project where they can do it or mix digital and traditional.

I agree. It really depends on the job you might be looking for. Traditional will have a place in comics for a long time. But many other facets to the art industry jobs are having more and more of their process go digital sadly and some of them even require you to use specific software such a Photoshop or specific 3d software. But just like with those jobs there are other jobs like portrait paintings and stuff for clients and freelance work that will always have a variety of traditional or digital to them.
