There is absolutely no need to apologize, Chinese culture is very diverse and inclusive, not just for foreigners, even people from different regions of China don't know all the cuisine choices or customs of other regions, people are normally quite glad to explain to others and won't give others a hard time even if they don't agree the local preferences.

Guangdong's DIM SUM is the best! 👍❤❤❤

@horaceleung8646Ай бұрын
1. Dim sum is actually a general term for everything on the paper you order. It means something similar to "snacks" in English. In the eyes of Cantonese people, these foods cannot be considered dishes, so they are called dim sum (snacks). 2. Among the dim sum in Guangdong, there are four most basic ones, which are also the criteria for Cantonese people to judge whether a restaurant is good or not. These four dim sum include shrimp dumplings, chicken feet, spare ribs and barbecued pork buns. This is why your friend said that there are some things that must be tried. 3. Cantonese morning tea can actually be regarded as a brunch. Many Cantonese people will sit from 10 am to 2 pm, and some elderly people will sit from 6 am to noon. They will just order a few dim sum, and then drink tea and chat all the time, which is why it is called morning tea. There is a very famous saying in Guangdong: "One pot of tea and two dim sum", which means a pot of tea and two dim sum, which can kill a whole morning. 4. In the eyes of many Guangzhou people, the best morning tea in Guangzhou is in the Chinese restaurant in the White Swan Hotel, but the price is also the most expensive, because it is also a Michelin one-star restaurant. If you two go to eat, it is estimated that it will cost at least £40.

Dim sum itself is a collective term for all the dishes you ate on the table, probably except the congee. The semi-transparent dumpling you misunderstood as dim sum should be called shrimp dumpling or pronounced as 'Hakao' in Chinese. The white bun with sweet stuffing is barbecued pork buns or pronounced as 'Chashao Bao' in Chinese.

The idea of cleaning your bowl and utensils with hot tea is back in old days when there is no dishwashing machine, everything is hand washed at the back alley and the rinsing water is not changed as regularly as they should. Hence patrons caught on and started rinsing it with hot tea. Some smaller places still hand wash but to be safe everyone still cleans it or bring their own chopsticks and bowls. Also the first batch if tea isn't nice. Chinese usually poor it out as it's too strong = bitter. The 2nd and 3rd batch is nicer.

Chicken is euphemised in China as Phoenix, so chicken feet are called Phoenix claws 鳳 feng (Phoenix) 爪 zhua (claws) in Mandarin and fong zao in Cantonese. You are at the heart of Cantonese culture, language and cuisine. Guangzhou has several nicknames, Flower City Hua 花 (flower) Cheng 城 (city), Five Goats City Wu 五 (five) Yang 羊 (goats, sheep) Cheng 城 (city), or Rice City Sui 穗 Cheng 城。There is a Yuexiu Park (Yue 越=southern region of the Yangtze River, Xiu 秀 = beautiful ) where you can find the statue of the Five Goats with one of them having a bushel of rice in his mouth. @@OTWD_ytI will. I have been following your channel and if you need any information or recommendations, please let me know as I am fluent in Mandarin and Cantonese, and I’ve been to half of China. I still got relatives living in different parts of China such as Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Macau, Shanghai, Yingtan, Hangzhou and Yiwu on both my husband’s side and my own side. I saw some comments referring to the char siu bao as “chashao bao”. Char siu bao is in Cantonese, whereas chashao bao is in Mandarin. You mentioned “hoisin sauce”. Hoisin 海鲜 is in Cantonese (hai xian in Mandarin) literally means “sea freshness” which is seafood. Two of the world’s oldest mosques are in Guangzhou, founded in 620AD right after the founding of Islam. They are called Xianxian Mosque and Huaisheng Mosque. Guangzhou used to be called Panyu. During the Qin Dynasty, General Zhao Tuo was commissioned by Qin Shihuang (the First Emperor of the Qin Dynasty who commissioned the building of the Great Wall and Terra Cotta Army) to do the Baiyue Conquest. Bai 百 (hundred) Yue 越 (Yue people, or Viet in Vietnamese) are people who lived south of the Yangtze River. Jiangsu province and Zhejiang province of China used to be called Wu Yue 吴越。Fujian province used to be called Min Yue 闽越。Guangdong, Guangxi and northern Vietnam used to be called Nan Yue 南越(Nam Viet in Vietnamese). Yunnan province used to be called Dian Yue 滇越。 General Zhao Tuo (Trieu Da in Vietnamese) founded the Nan Yue Kingdom with its capital in Guangzhou, and also founded the Zhao Dynasty (Trieu Dynasty in Vietnamese) of Vietnam, starting the 1000 year rule of China over Vietnam until the Tang Dynasty of China. The word “Viet Nam” (Yue Nan in Mandarin) is reversing the two Chinese characters of the Nam Viet (Nan Yue) Kingdom founded by General and later King Zhao Tuo. Nam (Nan) literally means “south”. Rice noodles fen (pho in Sino-Vietnamese) was invented at that time, when General Zhao Tuo’s soldiers missed their noodles from the north, so they used rice plentiful in the wet south to invent rice noodles. Japan, Korea and Vietnam are collectively called the Sinosphere. Noodles, dumplings, rice, rice wine, rice noodles, bean curd doufu (tofu in Sino-Japanese), miso, soy sauce si yao in Cantonese (souyu in Sino-Japanese), tea, mocha (matcha in Sino-Japanese), hotpot, chopsticks, paper folding art, weiqi (game of encirclement), penzai (bonsai in Sino-Japanese), lamian or pulled noodles (ramen in Sino-Japanese), zhajiangmian or fried sauce noodles (jjajangmyon in Sino-Korean), koi fish, cherry blossoms, came from China and are Chinese inventions. You can google search for their invention history on google. There is a Museum of Nan Yue King Mausoleum in Guangzhou, which if time allows, you should pay a visit. It’s an archaeological site of mausoleum of Zhao Mo, the grandson and successor of General Zhao Tuo. Japanese culture is a replica of the Tang Dynasty. Google search for “Japanese missions to imperial China” and “Japanese missions to Tang Dynasty”. The Tang Dynasty capital Chang’an (modern day Xi’an) is the prototype of Nara and Kyoto, which were capitals of the Nara Period and Heian Period, which were contemporary periods of the Tang Dynasty. Korean culture is a replica of the Ming Dynasty of China as Korea was a vassal state to China during the Ming Dynasty. Vietnam was ruled by China for 1000 years from the Baiyue Conquest (you can google search for this term) to the Tang Dynasty (618-907AD), which was also when Muslims whose religion was just founded, came to China, which explains why Xi’an (capital of 13 dynasties including the Qin Dynasty, Han Dynasty where the Silk Road was opened, and Tang Dynasty when the Japanese sent a lot of envoys to copy the Tang culture back to Japan) has a Muslim Street and a huge population of Muslims. The mountain in Guangzhou is called Baiyun (White Cloud) Mountain. The mother river is the Zhu 珠 (Pearl) Jiang 江 (River). Some historical landmarks include the Six Banyan Tree Pagoda 六榕塔, night cruise on the Pearl River, Canton Tower Guangzhou Ta, Yuexiu Park where you can find the statue of the Five Goats with a bushel of rice in their mouth, which give rise to the two nicknames Rice City, and Five Goats City, for Guangzhou. There are Eight Major Chinese Regional Culinary Styles: Yue (Cantonese) from Guangdong province, Min from Fujian province, Zhe from Zhejiang province, Su from Jiangsu province, Chuan from Sichuan province, Hui from Anhui province, Lu from Shandong province (birthplace of Confucius) and Xiang from Hunan province. There is a famous saying “Eat in Guangzhou” as Cantonese cuisine is the most famous both within China and in oversea Chinese diaspora worldwide. Cantonese signature dishes include wonton noodle soup, dim sum or yum cha (yin cha in Mandarin which means “drink tea”), barbecued pork char siu, roasted goose/duck, roasted suckling pig, slow-cooked soups, double skin milk, claypot rice, etc. A lot of oversea Chinese restaurants contain these signature Cantonese dishes. Cantonese cuisine is characterized by freshness and original flavors. Sichuan cuisine is characterized by mala or numb (ma) and spicy (la). Hunan cuisine is characterized by spiciness. Zhejiang and Jiangsu provinces cuisine is characterized by a tinge of sweetness in their salty dishes. Xi’an, Luoyang, Nanjing and Beijing are collectively called the Four Great Ancient Chinese Capitals. It’s a lot of history and recommendations to do. I hope it’s not too overwhelming for you. They are also sold in the frozen section of the supermarket and the price is only half of the restaurant price. Egg card and Barbecue pork buns too
@GeorgeForman-i9tАй бұрын
The quality is much different. Popular dimsum restaurants will always use fresh ingredients, hand made daily. You can tell the difference just from how the shrimps are used in the dumplings. If it's in big whole chunks you can be pretty confident that it's made with fresh prawns, not frozen. If it's frozen it will just turn to mush when cooked. The low quality, or mass produced ones, will be chopped fine to hide the texture. This is the stuff you find at the frozen section or at the breakfast buffet at the hotels. Same with suimai. The pork cut by hand will have a totally different texture than something blended up in a food processor. Hand chopping will keep the meat texture, it will be juicy and you know it's pork. The mass produced ones will be like a ping pong ball.

For example, the dim sum you known as prawn dumpling (Har-gow in Cantonese) and the chicken feet each(same size as yours, may be yours are bigger in size and better quality) costs £7.59 each! Talked about inflation, each time I went there , the prices were always up! Very likely it will go up again very soon due to the imposition of the new tax regime! Enjoy your travel in China.

Yes it incomparable. Actually every thing from hotels to food trains taxis metro have been at least 50x better and 20th of the price. Yes I know when I tell people this they then say we earn so much more but here the shops are busy the malls are packed and everyone is having fun while our high streets look like the aftermath of a zombie apocalypse.

In London China town, 9 dim sums will cost upward of £70-80 plus service. 😮

Welcome to China, ladies and gentlemen. China is not perfect. At least not as exaggerated as some media reports.

Why is Reanne so angry!? Is she always like this??? whys she shouting at the screen and pointing when advertising Holafly XDDD

That's chicken feet haha not duck feet. Yes it contains collagen. Then that's steamed pork ribs. The other thinly wrapped dumpling is the prawn dumpling or in cantonese it's called har gao. Prawns should never be "fishy" and rubbery :D That dipping sauce could be peanut/sesame sauce? The pork buns seems to be too doughy less filling? It's called char siew bao.

The outrageous thing is that even though those clothes are fakes, if you're willing to pay the same price as the real thing, you can get a product that's higher quality than the real thing

Avoid going to fancy restaurants in the city center for breakfast. Just have breakfast at a street restaurant and save some travel expenses.

😂 Maybe, but that's like eating dunkin doughnuts, or 711 every place you travel. Food isn't expensive in china. There's really high end restaurants but there's plenty of affordable places locals go to. Experiencing the cuisine is apart of the travel experience.
