Hi everyone!
Here's part 2 of iceskating in The Netherlands: seen by drone. I hope you enjoyed yet another look inside what a typical Dutch winter used to look like. We love many things to do during winter season in The Netherlands; but ice skating is something almost every Dutch person (men and women) likes to do. It's definitely one of the things to do in winter in The Netherlands if you get the chance. Unfortunately this doesn’t happen that often anymore, but this was shot in March 2018.
This The Netherlands & Holland drone footage and video shows you a small village in the North of The Netherlands, that is one of my personal favourite places to go ice skating in The Netherlands on natural ice.

"Traditional" is a big word. ☺️ Fortunately there was a week snow and ice this year. But most winter is cold not enough to skate.

I know, but this is what it used to look like more often in the past, which is why I used the word ‘traditional’ 🙂 Last time I skated on ice (before last week) was in 2018. I’m so happy we got ice and snow last week, I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did!

Lovely...so beautiful! I heard this is not a yearly occurrence. Last year, while in lock down, I made a watercolor painting of Dutch winter, from a 10-year-old video. Keep posting :-)

I’m glad you like it! It’s unfortunately not a yearly thing, no. We skated on the ice this year and the last time before that it was in 2018. That’s amazing that you made a painting like that; looks like you’ve been making the most out of your lock down!

Beautiful. Personally I'm a bit scared to skate on frozen lakes coz I can never be sure about the ice thickness

I’m glad you like it! I can definitely understand that if you’re not familiar with it. We usually measure the ice to see whether it’s okay. And we can often see where bad parts are.

I saw from some video that temperature in winter is mostly above 0 degree. Is that right? How come are there ices 😂

The average temperature is indeed above 0 degrees, but we do get a few really cold weeks every few years (used to be more), so then we can skate on the canals.

Wellll, it’s not 100% safe for people who don’t know how iceskating works and how ice works. Most Dutch people on the other hand know how you can see if there’s weak ice and such, and quite a few carry special equipment that can get you out of the water 😄
