Thalapath is Sail Fish, it's one of the expensive varieties in Sri Lanka. Basically, other fish dish, which you said as tangy is made using goraka, also known as Indian Tamarind. Basically for the mango curry, sugar is added to give a chutney kinda feel, spicy ones without sugar is also made. The place where you ate is not the best, they are okeish kinda Sri Lankan food, there are many places. However, not a bad choice. The chicken devilled, it's sweet and spicy due to the sauce and sugar added. You should try authentic Sri Lankan chicken curry.
