Great recipe and thanks for posting. Made it last week and there's another pot cooking as I type. Tastes exactly as I remember it when I was a wee lad. Quare stuff. 👍👍

Mark, thanks for adding the portions to make the soup mix. We can't get the soup mix already made up here in the US, but I will be able to buy those separately and make it myself and put it in a container for storage. I've many a happy memory coming home from school and seeing a big saucepan of that soup on the cooker.

Yeah I put them on because ireland is about the only place I know that sells them as a packet of soup veg.

i like this recipe so will definitely, try it. i've seen a few recipes where they put in a lot of salt. i also like your presentation, no talking nonsense or trying to be a circus performer... top marks 👏🏆

Thanks. I'm glad you enjoyed the video. I dont put a lot of salt in most of my dishes. Everyone's taste is different so in things like soup I leave it for whoever is eating to season. I also find there can be enough seasoning in the stock used.

great to see this, I do soup occasionally, reminds me of a Sunday before dinner my grandad used to be responsible for the soup and he boiled skin on new potatoes to go with it served separately that had flaky broken skins and we used to put them in the soup I think tesco were doing soup veg packs at one time but not seen lately also the soup mix seems harder to find in England. but then dont do the shopping much now!

Thanks. I always make this soup because it reminds me of my granny’s soup. Like your grandad there was always a spud ready to go into it. She always loved it when the new potatoes were in season and peeled really easy. Thanks for bringing back those memories

Did you add anymore water to it or was it just the liter of stock?
@MarksHomeKitchen2 жыл бұрын
I normally use about 2 pints (1 litre) but depending on how much barley you use or how thick you like your soup you can use a little more. It's all about personal taste. I like my soup fairly thick. 😋 if it's to thick just add some more either stock or water.

@@MarksHomeKitchen cheers mate my da puts a ham shank in it as well I'm hoping to do it better 😂
@MarksHomeKitchen2 жыл бұрын
If you adding more stock say an extra half a pint. Make it beef stock (but I didn't tell you that) it gives the flavour of beef broth as well just like when it was made with bones. 👍👌
