You can ask for more green tea because it’s free☺️You can say, “ocha okawari kudasai”😃Or ask for ohiya/ cold water. Water in provinces are very delicious you should try, their better than evian.

It is such a satisfaction to eat these type of meals where you have different things to eat. The flavours don’t get as redundant as a poutine and it doesn’t seem really heavy.

Chopstick rests are such an overlooked form of tableware art. From simple ones made from clay to fancy ones of Jade and even origami-fashioned ones from the paper sleeves that the chopsticks come with they are all (as with most things in Japan) fascinating. Super cool video guys!

The meal looks amazing and I love the arrangement! It's interesting how the character for mountain in Japanese (山) looks exactly like mountain in Chinese (山, pronounced shān). It's crazy how the two languages are similar.

Sam and Audrey, next time you guys are in Japan, I hope you'd be able to visit Takashima City in Shiga Prefecture, famous for funazushi, said to be the origins of sushi. The type of fish they use is carp from Lake Biwa, fermented for 3 years, and best eaten with rice. 😋

7:53-8:04 What a beautiful view of the restaurant! It looks similar to the interior of a Japanese/sushi restaurant in Springfield, Missouri, called Sakura. That restaurant not only contains traditional tables and booths, but also a Ryokan(?)-style dining room in the back. AND, one time when my family and I ate lunch there, we ate in that particular room.

I have to same something, first I love your videos and content but it is the second time I have seen you say the menu is in Japanese. And at the Sumo restaurant say look how beautiful the Japanese Menu is and the one in English is all dog eared, I wonder how many Canadian Restaurants have even a dog eared Japanese Menu??? I bet its's none. Thats all, like I say I love your content and intend to travel to Japan in the future and your videos have been a great help. Besos from Spain 🇪🇸

There was a great ambiance in that restaurant. I thought your dishes were more similar than different both were long on tofu. Your intro made it sound like you'd be eating a lot of freshly picked raw wild plants rather than what you ended up with (everything cooked or heavily marinated). Do the Japanese just not eat vegetables raw? I'm pretty sure they put raw vegetables in sushi and of course the fish is raw but do they ever have salads?.
@samuelandaudrey
@samuelandaudrey 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Emily! In terms of raw vegetables sometimes you get a side salad with a mayo dressing but it is not a common main dish.
@emilybh6255
@emilybh6255 5 жыл бұрын
I know you aren't there anymore and it might be rude to do but it would be really interesting to go a restaurant like that, that was busy, and go around to the tables of the Japanese patrons and video tape what they chose to eat. I'd be especially interested to know if they really eat that much tofu (since it has now been admitted that too much soy is bad for you) and how much or little rice they actually eat - not to mention that it can corn are the top two foods most commonly genetically engineered.
@Mwoods2272
@Mwoods2272 5 жыл бұрын
@@emilybh6255 The Japanese eat a lot of soy in different forms. Soy Sauce, Edamame, Natto is fermented soy beans, Miso is soy paste, Yuba is tofu skin from soy beans, soy meat patties, soy milk and even more dishes.
@emilybh6255
@emilybh6255 5 жыл бұрын
@@Mwoods2272 Evidently they eat a lot of soy now anyway. They didn't use to. I wonder if they care whether it is genetically engineered or not. Maybe they have just thrown caution to the wind ever since Fukishima.
