I couldn’t find a follow-up video… did you ever do an accuracy comparison of powder coated vs powder coat with lube/gas check?
@PyroRob695 жыл бұрын
FC, I am glad to see you do this. I have always used the same luber you are using, and wanted to get into the PC lubing, but wondered if I had any issues, if I could still lube, without needing to re-melt the bullets. I also like using gas checks, but it seems PC doesn't lend itself to that easily.

Would love to see some testing of powder coated bullets over black powder both with and without BP lube.
@thecainer644 жыл бұрын
How did they turn out? I have wondered if this would be better than just powder coated alone. I had really great success with tumble lubing. The liquid alox, or 45/45/10 may look less pretty than the powder coated bullets, but man do they shoot amazing. I have had no leading whatsoever in my .30-06 sized to .309. I do usually run a gas check just because of velocity to prevent gas cutting, but I have found most times a proper alloy to bullet size diameter works fine even without gas checks at standard cast bullet velocities. I figure its best to be safe though. No one who has ever seen the bore of my .30-06 believes I only fire cast bullets in it. I think there is a lot of bad press on cast bullets. Love the channel my friend. Blessings in Christ from all of us at Alive Ministries USA. Praying for this Nation! Praying for you Sir.

i need to look up some stuff but at what point is it a required to use a gas check instead of just a good idea? Example: I have a 220gr bullet mold for 308 used in 300 blackout. i dont push it too fast but waht if i wanted to throw it out of 308 win for example? 1200.. 1500.. 2000 fps.. wheres that magical line?

I've had an idea for a .357/.358 bullet using a hard cast base inserted into a jacket then being swaged with soft lead at the point. The swager, would size the bullet and crimp the jacket in to hold the base and the soft lead together. Does that sound feasible to you?
@danielwatters12035 жыл бұрын
I've heard of folks casting two-piece bullets with different alloys for each section.
@greylocke1005 жыл бұрын
@@danielwatters1203 I have as well. I've known a few people who have done it, however as velocities get higher, the weak point becomes the jackets. One gentleman told me that above 930-950 fps the jackets would fail constantly. That's what made me think of a hard cast base, with a swaged in core and swaged on jacket. The mechanical bonding would be much more even leading to fewer jacket separations and allowing higher velocities.
@greglaroche17535 жыл бұрын
For Linotype alloy, try Roto Metals.
@danielwatters12035 жыл бұрын
@@greylocke100 - I was thinking something more like this old article from Ross Seyfried. Per Seyfried, his casting technique kept the two sections fused together. I would imagine that the resulting projectiles would also perform fine with powder coating or even the use of a gas-check. www.riflemagazine.com/magazine/article.cfm?magid=71&tocid=974
@FortuneCookie45LC5 жыл бұрын
greylocke100 - Swaging our own bullets was done back in the CH Dies and Corbin dies back in the 70s and 80s - was an alternative to bullet casting. That practice has fallen out of favor, probably because the dies were so expensive. But certainly, you can do such things. We don't need that for our handguns, but for rifle shooting - it's the velocity that will expand the bullets. Today's jacketed handgun bullets are pure lead cores and the rifle bullets are soft lead alloy cores. Too hard makes manufacturing more difficult. You are trying to make a Partition type bullet with your concept to maintain weight while expanding. Our jacketed bullet makers have been able to accomplish that with varying thicknesses of bullet jackets to effect the same - expansion yet weight retention. Swaging jacketed bullets down has a problem in that when the jackets are swaged down, they spring back just a bit while the lead cores do not. Swaging up the bullets (instead of swaging them down) has been the way the factories give us the good jacketed bullets we have today (unless the Hot Core concepts used by Speer are done where the cores are basically soldered to the inside of the jackets. Your home done jacketed bullets are in the same category as trying to cast a cast bullet with a hard base and a soft nose - very difficult to get consistency. But if you are successful your process might be interesting to other shooters. Best to ya, Steve

Hey Steve after the Lee sizing the RCBS press is only used to lube the bullet ?
@FortuneCookie45LC5 жыл бұрын
Nick J - No need to double the work, Lee size 'em with out lube or use the RCBS and lube 'em at the same time...one thing is though, the Lee sizer needs a spritz of case lube before sizing or it's really a bad chore. With the RCBS, there's lube in the die from the bullet lube already, so just run 'em through and put the gas check and lube on at the same time. Have a great day, Steve
