Otter Fishing (1997): In the world's most crowded country, Bangladesh, it's hard to imagine there's any room for nature. But we discover a unique relationship between man and beast.

Crashing around in a log box, two otters in rope harnesses are desperate to get to their food. A fisherman lifts the lid and out they dive to munch on the fishtails scattered outside their wooden cage. Bengali fishermen use these otters to herd fish into their nets. Every year Bengali menfolk bid their families farewell and sail downstream to catch their fish. With a sharp smack on the bottom, the otters are dispatched into the water and told to swim for their keep! More often than not, they get caught up in the nets and incur verbal abuse from their masters. As crimson sunset falls, the fishermen cook by their fires and the otters curl up in the boxes and go to sleep.

To anyone who thinks that these otters are being abused, then you clearly aren’t paying attention to how these otters are doing, they get to swim in their natural environment as they work and they’re fed. Also this is how other countries do similar stuff we do but differently so this is completely normal for them

All of these animal lover comments is annoying. They have sympathy for animal more than the people, like these people has a better option to help their lives. Even this kind of technique u call cruel is helping this animal from extiction.
@SFVnative
@SFVnative 6 жыл бұрын
You're right. I have more sympathy for those otters than for those shitty dirty people who routinely murder all their female babies, sell what children they keep into slavery, pay people pennies for work; and rape, murder and maim women and children. The country is full of blind and disfigured for life women who had acid thrown in their faces just because they didn't want to date or have sex with some asshole. I've even heard of children having their arms and legs cut off so they could be sent out to beg. Even the worst caucasian sociopath doesn't do that unimaginable shit. They're stupid too. There's probably a shortage of women because so many are killed at birth, but the women's parents pay men to marry them, after which most of the men and their families murder the women by burning her alive and then they go on to the next one. They also sell their kidneys for stupid stuff like wedding parties, after which they are in ill health for life. There have been numerous documentaries about life in those shit-hole countries. Those otters probably have higher IQs than the men who treat those playful affectionate animals like insects.

@karenchervier9420
@karenchervier9420 5 жыл бұрын
Well, I wouldn't treat them that way. The spank wasn't hard to traumatize them; the final touch to get them into the cage, basically. But I would enjoy the rapport with my animal a more affectionate way, like with a pet, besides making it work and provide food for me or to sell. I am more worried about our ''modern ways'' of fishing nowadays, depleting the oceans, mass production, with the demands from over populated earth and growing greed from the middle men who have no clue about how nature works and how it suffers! These guys here are saints compared... Let's just put things into perspective. This reminds me of the cormorant fishing too...

I feel Sorry for the animals trapped in the Zoo and houses of USA. These guys are actually keeping otter wild and letting them fish and work and not babysitting a tiger in house backyard and treating them like dogs and not predators lol.

@@TheAryanKnightDo you really think otters on 2 foot leashes that get shoved into a box whenever they're not being used are living better lives than zoo animals? What would a thirdie know about animal compassion

Good and well trained but they should live freely in water.that is the nature law..one way it helps folk to eke out livelihood,but to some extent they should be freed and they should learn new tech to catch fish..will they do?or govt.,will force them/?who knows better than Almighty.,

Technically they wouldn't be "fishing" if it was for otters, but ah well.

Considerably less graceful and elegant than cormorant fishing. This looks like amateur hour.
