Hi everyone, We never imagined we’d be in a position where we’d have to ask for your support like this, but the reality is, due to unforeseen circumstances, we’re facing some astronomical costs in order to make a critical transition. With everything that’s happened, staying in our current situation is untenable, and we need to move quickly to a new chapter. This involves significant expenses, including the logistics of transporting the sheep, our belongings, and everything else that comes with a major life shift. We wanted to fund this on our own, but at this point, we could really use your help to make this transition as smooth as possible. Any financial support you can offer would be deeply appreciated, no matter how small. Please donate to our new Kofi campaign here: ko-fi.com/thescottishisle Thank you for always being there for us, and for understanding during this difficult time. We’re truly grateful for each and every one of you. Much love, Scott & Katie PS: You will all be coming on this journey with us! So please stay tuned

Scott &Katie I think it maybe time to move on, I have watched you from the start of your journey, and have loved it, you have been so entertaining and knowledgeable but I have watched you struggle and it has aged you, I think the solitude has had an affect on your health, with an ungrateful landlord who is going to undo all your good work , I say find a new project we will still be here supporting you.❤️

About 50 years ago, as a young architect just out of school, I helped some friends convert an old out building into a workshop. The building had stood uninsulated for over 100 years. But a couple years after we "remodeled" it the building was gone. That was my first experience with moisture and vapor pressure in old structures. Have you ever wondered why the original occupants of your cottage accepted the moisture problems, dampness, drafts, heat, and cold inside their home? In part it was out of necessity, but to a larger part it was because the drafty conditions controlled the dampness and the cold inside didn't create the vapor pressure caused by temperature differential. As soon as the occupants began closing up the openings to prevent drafts, began insulating and drying out the air inside the house by increasing the heat, the dampness problem you are fighting began. Most people do not appreciate the power and effect of vapor pressure on historic structures. You will not like hearing this, but some of the things you have done to the building have done more damage to the historic fabric of the structure, and shortened its potential life than anything a few bricks or drywall can possible do. Sealing that floor is just going to increase the vapor pressure that is pulling moisture through the walls. And drying out the interior with a wood stove is going to speed it up even more. I wish I could be more positive, but you are dealing with an difficult problem that restoration architects grapple with all the time. Old structures were not built to be lived in the way modern people want to live.

Lumberjack from Grimsby……brilliant It’s beyond me why when 2 people want to do the right thing to a building, then someone wants to come in and basically vandalise a historic building… You are breathing life back into it,and giving it a soul again… Some have no idea of retaining history… I’m totally on your side to restore it correctly

My heart goes out to you, Katie and Scott. for all the love and hard work you have put in to this place. I sincerely hope something can be done to preserve this lovely heritage cottage before it is spoilt forever. I've watched your channel since the beginning and your love of Scottish Heritage is evident. I'm thinking what I would do in your situation concerning the modern renovations which are being forced on you. Only you know the conditions under which you embarked on this project and I suppose it depends which you value more, living on the island and enjoying the whole experience or renovating the cottage in the way you would choose. I have loved seeing the island and the scenery and I would personally take that over the exhausting and remorseless renovation of the cottage. I know you are doing this because you love it and feel it is the correct way to honour the cottage, but wouldn't Scott like to go to bed without a scarf :)

Shocking news for sure, but not a surprise. I have zero kind words about the decision to seal in the damp by essentially undoing the hard work y'all have done. It surprises me the two of you don't have health issues from the mold and damp you've endured during the renovation and preservation. If you decide to end the project, then as noted in other comments, your fans will follow. The beauty of the cottage will be lost if y'all leave because of the owner's decision. Even if there was an offer to stay there for free, I'd turn it down because once those walls are put back up, the cottage will lose its soul.
