To your point at 51:00, I love gothic proportions and grandeur, and I also love the cleanliness, almost purity of some modern architecture. Though I’m not a fan of FLW there’s a lot of good in his work I think. Anyway all that said, I think Hallgrimskirkja in Reykjavik is prime modern timeless Christian architecture. The architect also designed a cathedral, can’t remember the name, but it’s just gorgeous. Hallgrimskirkja in particular is breathtaking

@@Saber23 well, maybe there are many who do not. Very many indeed. However, there are also many Catholics who actually do both love and obey God. Many whom I have been fortunate to know over the years who have lived very good and noble lives in a world that it is challenging to do so. We should never base our Faith on those who do not live God's laws, but rather live with faithfulness and love for God because it is right to do so. I myself am a Catholic and strive to live a good and holy life. I will admit it isn't easy and I am aware I falter weekly, possibly daily just because we live in an imperfect world that we absorb and learn habits growing up that are difficult to overcome without time and patience. However, we must rise back up and forge forward on this journey in life till our last days call us to our judgement. As a general statement you made regarding Catholics in general. What you fail to understand is that there are many who claim to be Catholic that neither practice nor even know what the Catholic Faith teaches or believes. Much of what they think they know is simply, at best, incomplete understanding of Catholic doctrine. However, more than likely, worse yet is that they have not been truly educated in what the Catholic Church believes. It may be likely that they are taught a number of false premises applied to Catholics that isn't truly Catholic teaching, but people assume it is because there are corrupt men (and women) who claim to be Catholic, but do not live the Catholic Faith nor study it and lie, be it intentional or by ignorance, about what the Catholic Church teaches.

Sense of the Sacred, impression from people across the religious spectrum, not just devout catholics, the requirement of new church designs being something that is built upon the patrimony of the church and not from a vacuum to avoid it becoming a building that is not reminiscent of the church as a place of worship, the church making it as if the self was teleported to heaven which is a completely different plane of existence, windows that let light in which reminds us of the heavenly reality that is awaiting us, the altar as a symbol of christ and its substantial nature is a symbol that he is the cornerstone that everything is built on, echoes when you step in a church making you quiet and percieve the entire space as hollowed ground and them making gregorian chants sound better. The past church trying to perfect nature. The streamlining of decoration due to the enlightenment of the mind of the church's followers with them now being able to follow the instructions of the church without the need for it to be pictorial. Le corbusier wanting to demolish paris and rebuilding it to something that is plain making it an automobile city. The contractors and the salespeople rejoicing that they can sell something so plain and people will accept it. Modernist buildings requiring you to read an essay just to recognise them as beautiful. Some of the excellent points pointed out that I feel is important.

Many modern church designs are not beautiful, uninspiring and uninviting, they're unfit for churches. Beautiful styles (like Gothic architecture) are what we need for Christianity to revive.

Having travelled around the world visiting churches, I do like the baroque churches. Some of the facades are amazing, and the interiors can be rich in design, and not solely focused on the stained glass of many of the Gothic churches. Saint Barromeo's church in Antwerp Belgium is one of my favorite churches. The interior woodwork is absolutely breathtaking. Gothic churches are incredible also. Modern churches? Most leave a lot to be desired. Oh, I know the architects are trying to be modern and sophisticated. But they just don't stand up to classic church designs from the past.

I cannot stand contemporary churches. Like 100%. It is like people don’t care to make it look nice. Contemporary is way to relaxed. Things need to be ornate.

In a consumers society, everything is build as disposable, quick to replace or restored. In WW1 and WW2 catholic churches were a big target, in my opinion to destroy and rebuild. These huge cathedrals and churches were also used as healing temples. Big organs were used as sound treatment, like light treatment which operates to corresponding frequencies. It will be devastating to the medical industry which will lose billions each year if people can heal themselves by simply going to church. Everything in these churches had a purpose. Crystal windows, copper/gold roofs, shapes and even the details where all to improve and support life.
